Got a toothache.....
The fronts have been giving me gip all day and some. Trouble is I have crowns at the front so shouldn't have any probs. I've never had a pain like this before......
Come what may, got to find a late evening dentist within reasonable travelling distance.![]()
hope its nothing serious.
drink some wine and numb the pain till tomorrow then find and a reasonably prices normal dentist?
Under no circumstances drink alcohol. If the pain really is that bad get yourself down to A&E they have emergency dentists. If you think you can bear it take two paracetamol every four hours. And two ibuprofen every four hours, staggered two hours after the paracetamol
True Blue:Local A and E is the only way forward.
A&E won't do anything unless it's life-threatening. There are no practises open tonight, been advised to pump myself up with pain-killers and see my dentist in the morning.
They've told me not to brush my teeth or use anticeptic mouth-wash - rinse only with warm salty water every hour or so.
I think I may have an infection due to the fact my crowns were first fitted about 20 years ago. Gawd, it's bloody 'orrible!
best thing for toothache is whisky. i dont drink whisky, but if you put a mouthful of whisky ( or brandy ), in your mouth, and try and keep it in your mouth for as long as you can, forming a puddle in your mouth, over the painful area. spit it out, and the areas will be numb. its really hard to keep it in your mouth for a long period of time. take painkillers aswell.

Appointent at 10.40am. Not looking forward to it at all.....I'm a woosey, and I don't care![]()
sad thing is that they may only give you antibiotics and tell you to come back in 1 week ... I had an absus (sp) about a year ago ... they said it is dangerous to remove or work on the tooth when this is the case

Not good news. The dentist took X-rays and found I have a cyst in the gum. He's referred me to my local Hospital for an op. It's only a day clinic, but I'd rather have my toe-nails pulled out. They'll have administer knock-out drops to do the procedure.
Nasty. There`s nothing worse than toothache. Looking on the bright side at least you can get it out of the way now in time for Christmas. Just think how bad it would have been if this had happened on Christmas day. Good luck PP!
Oh, just thought of a quick toothache story. When I was 18 (sigh) I had toothache and someone recommended to me that I dab some Oil of Cloves on the tooth. Well I must have accidentally swallowed some because that evening I was as sick as a dog. Probably the most sick I`ve ever been so needless to say I haven`t touched a drop since.
I had a grooty few days. I think the antibiotics are now working because the swelling is receding - albeit very reluctantly.
If u ever have a problem finding a NHS dentist call you're local Primary Care Trust (PCT) they have to put u in touch with a dentist, i think thats out of hours too.
Get regular checkups, when u inevitably get tooth ache a dentist can do little right then but give u pain killers and antibiotics which don't help much. The blood supply to a tooth is very poor so when it's infected it's basically dying due to infection and swelling cutting off the blood. Other than med's they can yank the tooth or wait till it's calmed down and then go into to clear up the mess.
If the tooth ache goes away on it's own this doesn't mean it's all OK, it WILL come back, Much worse and for longer until you go to the dentist out of agony. Get it done while it's calm, then it's less visits and less pain.
You have been warned.

I don't need warning.
I've got a hospital appointment on Thursday and they'll take X-rays and decide what course of action will be taken.
As the dentist said: "Your teeth are fine, your gums are rotten," in a roundabout sort of way.
Just come back from a hospital appointment. Have to undergo a minor procedure to remove the cyst from my gum - and it's under local too. Still prefer that to knock-out drops. Gotta wait two months though.....
I have a story about a friend of mine and his teeth. He was 60-ish and went to the dentist who told him basically every tooth needed some work. He asked if the dentist could take all his teeth out and fit some plastic ones. And do it today. After the patient had signed some acceptance papers (absolving responsiblity), the dentist took all his teeth out. They had to wait a week for the swelling to go down before he could be measured for dentures.
When he came to work with the new teeth, I have to say they were fantastic. He had this glistening set of new gnashers - looked like Mr. Ed!
He went to a policeman's ball the following weekend, and I was asking how the party had gone. He said on the Saturday night he was shaving and sneezed, and after 30 minutes figured the teeth had gone down the toilet. He rang the council (sewerage dept?) and they said - no problem, he could collect them the next day.
When he went to the premises on Sunday, they had little piles of things they collected every 15 minutes 24/7. He looked at the pile for the time he lost his teeth and found several pairs in the pile. When I asked him why he wasn't wearing his new teeth again now (Monday morning) he confessed that he couldn't bring himself to try any of the teeth to see if they fitted, given their recent history....
