Re: Engagement?!?!

The fact that you are thinking about it is a good indication....

(and if you think they will say Yes is quite important!)

If you know you just know! Don't be doing it cause someone else is hinting though. If your sure go for it you won't regret it. Remember ring must equate to at least the value of your hi-fi ;-)

When she says: "Of course you can upgrade the hi-fi." Whoops!

Seriously though, you just have a gut instinct that directs you towards the jewellers. I proposed to my OH at Gatwick Airport. She had been away for a skying holiday, and enough is enough AFAIWC.

Good luck, PP

I think she deserves it after all the demo's of new kit she's come to with me lol.

I have become very concious of jewellers and what rings I think would be perfect for her!

Thanks :)

Re: Engagement?!?!

As long as she doesn't know how much the hi-fi cost your cool. Everything I buy was "just a couple of hundred" in a very vague manner.

I can thoroughly recommend blue nile dot com for the ring. Get about 30-40% more rock for ur cash as opposed to a jewellers. Fantastic service too.

Re: Engagement?!?!

Sorry didn't explain myself properly there. You design ur own setting, don't use one of the standard ones. If you don't like I'd still consider buying the diamond from them (or another reputable online diamond merchant)  and getting it set over here. Mark up is outrageous in a walk in jewellers in britain.

Source your stone from New York. There are a few very good websites that can help you. Even with the weak pound, you can get an excellent stone for £1.5k and to get it set over here (after verification) can be as little as £500. The rings you buy in Ernest Jones and the like for £2.5k are actually worth about £750! A GIA certified ring is the way forward (round brilliant are the best and most expensive).

Re: Engagement?!?!

When is tough. I was always against marriage but after 9 years with my loved one I finally proposed nearly 2 years  ago. Getting wed next year at a youthful 45 Tongue Tied

I bought the ring in the states too which was cheaper (1.8 k instead of 2.9 k) like for like but then I started to worry about taking it back to the UK so I proposed here which proved very worrying (dropping the ring) but I knew she'd say yes. Fear is an amazing narrower of perception Big Smile

Re: Engagement?!?!

I think you're supposed to spend a month's wages on the ring.

So the best time to propose, clearly, is just after you've been made redundant, retire or go back into full time education.
