Just watched a documentary about the Carpenters and the tragic demise of Karen. Although not a fan, I've always been intigued by their sweeter than sweet image.

I love the head-banging music and my collection could not be different from the Carpenters styli. Apart from her distinct voice, what is it that makes people gravitate towards them?

I only had one album of them, which was given to me by a school-mate. I later gave it to my sister (who was and still is) who was a keen Capenter.....

Well not so much PP's post per se, just a general dismissal of The Carpenters as too schmaltzy.

OOOoooOOOh.Sorry ,angel voices and calming music such as theirs (not schmaltz imo) are part of my chill out scene. As a teen I did Rory Gallagher and Lou Reed together with the Carps and Mama Cass. Each to their own.Part parental influence I suppose.

No no no - general dismissal by others - if i could only have one album on a desert island, it could easily be Singles 69-73.

Makes more sense now- phew- bedtime before I misinterpret the world again.(or get a whack from the OH ).

PS I'd still go the island with the Mamas and Papas over the Carps but it is close.

Re: Confessions of the mind

If I ever inherit any Carpenters ablums, they'll be filed in the same large round galvanised metal filing cabinet outside the back door as the New Seekers (shudder) ones.

Classy act, no doubt, but not my cup of tea, for sure!!
