Best tool for knocking out a molar.
JoelSim:Big Chris:They say a problem shared is a problem halved. it's much less painful today. I'm hoping the nerves will die and I won't have to bother with it at all.If you get an infection this will be far worse and if the nerves die then this is quite likely. I've had to have emergency work done twice on a tooth after the nerves died, very nasty indeed. Get to the dentist and fast!
Can't agree more, had a problem earlier this year and to say I was ill is an understatement.
As Joel says get it sorted and quick.
Yes if the infection gets big enough and gets into the bloodstream it results in septicaemia and then you die, if you're unlucky.

I will second that. Leaving the problem untoughed will only make it worse!
You risk all the things JoelSlim just listed. It will get more complicated (not to mention painful). On top of this it will be more expensive saving the tooth once the nerve has died. If this is what you want of course.
Yup, couldn't agree more. I used to be the biggest woosy you could come across. After a footballing accident, two of my front teeth were cracked. My girlfriend almost had to drag me to the dentist. I went and had to have crowns (this was fifteen years ago) - never looked back.
two years ago I had two route canals done. Fine. I've got to go back soon because my back tooth has cracked, but no problem.
The longer you leave it the worse it becomes, as the others have pointed out. Big Chris, just do it!
The problem with teeth is that they don't repair themselves.
the_lhc:Your breath smelled!
Nah, teeth always clean, just looked ropey...
The thing I hate about dentists is, you tell them where it hurts, and they stick a big metal prong into the exact spot you told them it hurts, and when you scream they say something along the lines of "Mmmmm.... It does seem a bit sore doesn't it".
OF COURSE IT DOES! I TOLD YOU IT WAS SORE! IT'S THE REASON I'M HERE!....... IDIOT!!![]()

Not before it develops into meningitis and ventriculitis, then it is troublesome..
Chris, Echoing all of the above statements get to a dentist / casualty fast. Explain your fear/ phobia. They may give you gas and air, or tell them (due to your size) you require two injections. Have the first one, go outside ten minutes go back in have the second, cant feel anything for hours. Will only take a minute to pull it out.

If you tell them you're nervous, they are sympatheic. As regards anesthetic, rather than putting you out with gas (most dentist these days do not use it) they have a 'Twilight anesthesia' where you just feel very sleepy but awake through the whole procedure.

I don't think they're actually allowed to these days are they?
My brother's a dentist and the main problem he has is when people come in with tooth ache expecting him to make it go away, the problem is all he can do at that point is pull it out. The only other thing he can do is send them away with some antibiotics to help calm it and then book them in for treatment.
When it flares up again, which it will, (another thing people do is think that because the tooth has stopped hurting then it's ok again, It's not get to a dentist before it starts hurting again!!) get some "oil of cloves" on it, try soaking a little cotton wool with it and stuffing it next to the tooth in the cheek. If you can't get that try rinsing your mouth with warm salt water to try kill off some of the bacteria, that and brushing your teeth after every drink and meal so the bacteria have no food to feed on.
But the main thing you can do is get to a dentist before it starts hurting again, then you might be able to start treatment there and then. If your phobia is really bad, I've not been to a dentist for about 11yrs, then call the surgery to see if they are able to give you some sedation. Most can't these days because they need a qualified anaesthetist there.
If they don't they should be able to refer you to somewhere that can, not sure if you will have to go in anyway for them to refer you or if they'll just do it right away. Failing that, call the Primary Care Trust, they will put you on to somwhere that can help.
Oh and as a last thought, go to a dental school, they have emergency clinics you can drop in to and i think have gas/sedation. But you could get a dopey student who's not sure exactly what to do so I'd save that as a last "just pull it OUT!" resort.
But what ever you do, don't try doing it yourself, you could cause bigger problems/infections. Get to a profesional they know what they're doing and and how best to do it. You wouldn't perform surgery on yourself would you? (wait don't answer that!)
And DON'T get wasted if you do go in, they can't give you any painkillers then. Plus they probably wouldn't treat you on principle.
Don't listen to some randoms on a forum go and talk to someone qualified, we probably haven't got a clue what we're on about.
Hope this helps.

When my sister went to have her choppers yanked, the dentist refused 'knock-out drops' and gave Twilight instead.
I was going to give some advice as I am a dentist(yes I am willing to admit it!), however cookiemonster seems to have just about covered everything.
Be careful with the oil of cloves try to put it in or on the tooth or you will burn the gum and cheek.
JUst bite the bullet(unfortunate turn of phrase) and go.
