What bit is broken, and how broken is it?  iPhone parts are available to buy on line, a screen shouldn't cost more than £30 if you are happy to do it yourself.  It should be much easier to repair than the 4S as you no longer have to strip the whole phone.

I went to the apple store and paid them 120 quid. They dont repair, thry just give you a cleaned refurb (though the one i got had somebodys mail account still on it :-/). Insurance excess was a hundred quid so i didnt bother.

Can't you claim on your household insurance?

Did that for the sprogs 3gs that got droped a couple of years ago.

Shop around for insurance, I would think you can get it for a lot less than £12.99. And if it's not already covered on the home insurance getting it added to it may be the cheapest option; it was for my iPhone 4.

I would first question Apple regarding the durability. How did you break it? Did you use it as a ball when playing cricket? If it only dropped from your hand onto the floor, it shouldn't have got damaged that badly. If that was the case, I would take it up with Apple to demand a free replacement.

Surely BB it depends what the floor is made of. I knocked my original iPhone off one of the worktops in the kitchen onto the slate floor, and the screen cracked and one corner was badly dented, yet the same phone had fallen out of my pocket from the top of a loft ladder onto a carpet below without a scratch...

To the OP, if you're looking for insurance, check the phone's not already covered by your home contents insurance. If it isn't, then include it (it costs very little extra). Also, it's worth checking that your bank account doesn't have phone cover. I know both Lloyds and First Direct offer it with some of their paid for accounts.

There were cases available for the 5 before it was actually released - my son had bought one from ebay which arrived on the Wednesday before the phone was out and his was safely encased in it when the phone arrived on the Friday they were released.

The S3 did worse in drop tests than the iPhone 5

Although, in all fairness to the S3, it crash landed screen-first, while the iPhone landed on its bottom – had the roles been reversed, chances are Apple’s smartphone would have suffered a similar fate.

My impression is that a lot of contents insurance dont cover iPhones or similar as standard. Apparantely they dont class them as phones, they are treated as PDA's / small computers.

Have you tried Protect My Bubble......I insured two Laptops, iPhone and iPad for £12.99 a month. This covers Accidental Damage (including water damage), Loss and Theft for the iPhone. The iPad they wont cover for Loss...only Accidental Damage and Theft.

I looked at a few of these sites a while back and in the end decided it would be better just to put aside a bit of money into a separate bank account each month to cover anything that might happen. Those insurance companies seem to have so many Ts and Cs that it seemed a bit of a gamble as to whether you'd actually get your money back or not (e.g. I heard of someone who didn't get a payout for a stolen phone because the company classified them being a few metres away from a desk where they'd put it down as the phone being unattended, so breach of Ts and Cs = no money).

At least with the bank account, there's no Ts and Cs, so no matter what happens you're covered and, if you don't lose / break the phone, you've got the money to cover your next device for no extra cost.

The other aspect is, you'd probably find things like your laptop may well be covered by home insurance anyway.

hi, did you buy it from apple store on your credit card, as credit card purchases are insured?
