Seeing as I'm treating myself to a 15.4" MacBook Pro in the next 3-4 weeks for my business I'm thinking that I need a new phone as well as my HTC Desire is dying a slow but sure death...

Is the iPhone 5 REALLY worth it (someone who'll use it just for texts, emails, calls and the odd hour on Angry Birds lol ) or should I stick with a cheaper but in a lot of circles a better phone such as the SGS III or Galaxy Note 2 (bear in mind I'm 6ft 4 and have big hands so the Note's size isnt an issue)?

I have always loved Apple but never got on amazingly well with the iPhone 4 or 4S...Will the iPhone 5 change that?!

How come you have not got on well with the iPhone 4 or 4s?

If you don't want to pay for a very expensive phone / contract I can recommend a Nokia Lumia 800. You can pick one up for £150ish new and unlocked. It's not the latest Windows 8, but 7.5 and due an update very shortly to 7.8. It's a very stylish and slick phone to use and the offline/downloadable Nokia Drive maps makes it a great satnav too.

@  therecruiter

If you're using OS X, pairing it with an iPhone is a no-brainer/essential?

If in doubt, ankle over to an Apple Store and ask for a demo/explanation re how OS X and iOS coalesce - ie, simply, efficiently and effectively.

FWIW, I also use an MBP/OS X and will be jettisoning my HTC/'Adenoid' for iPhone 5/iOS, asap.

I agree with replicant, if you have OS X then using iOS is a real simple affair and i have tried recently to move away from it and all i can say is once you have taken the step running both OS's together, its hard to find anything that comes close.

Though saying that i couldn't help you with you asking is the iPhone 5 worth it if you have already used an iPhone 4 & 4s and you didn't get on with them, i personally can't see you finding anything different on the iPhone 5 over the 4s that would change your mind.

So get down to an Apple store and have a play before you make your order.

Nexus 4 is almost half the price of an iPhone 5 & should definitely be on your shortlist. I've just got the Lumia 920 & it's definitely up there with the best.

Up to you and what you need/like/can afford/get on with/feel comfortable using etc.

I have had the iPhone 3GS, the iPhone 4 and now the iPhone 5.  I loved all of them and you would naturally expect me to say "get one".

Nope. Not gonna do that.  That's a 'fanboi' response. ("I love them, so you must love them too.")

Sorry but you are on your own with this decision.

(Although, as someone else asked, if you didn't get on with the 4 and 4S then why do you think the 5 is going to do it for you?)

I am sure all the other options you are being recommended here are all splendid phones too.

Nexus 4 should definitely be on your short list.

Though you may be in for a long wait to get it at Google prices.

Forgive me, folks, but perhaps some of us are missing the point - the benfits of syncing an Android phone with OS X / iCloud / iTunes / iMessage / Mail / iPhoto are, umm, er..?  puzzled

Probably not. It's really the same phone with a bigger screen and a faster processor. But as others have said, if you're going down the Mac route for a computer, no other phone integrates quite as well as an iPhone, for obvious reasons.

iTunes/iPhoto/Mail are no problem on Android, and of course all the Google alternatives to things with an i in front of them are accessible on a Mac

Three out of the six, hmm, not bad Tongue

And as for "no problem on Android", FWIW, not IME, OS X + Android hasn't exactly been seamless / intuitive - too much faffage banging head against wall

YMMV excellent!

Funny you should mention iOS and OS X integration, because my phone never connects with my laptop anymore.  All my content is backed up and synced in the cloud, so not sure that OS X integration is the benefit it once was.

Saying that though, I have had a couple of different Samsung tablet devices now and found maintaining data on there to be a ball ache. Kies is awful compared to iTunes.

RE: iPhone 5 - Should I / Shouldnt I?

Thanks for all the replies folks Laughing out loud

when I say I didn't get on with the iPhone 4's it was meant in a sense that they didn't really wow me... They were easy enough to use but always felt that the Samsung Galaxy Note was a lot smoother and more 'fun'...

however with reverting back to an Apple computer (been 3months since I sold my iMac and I can't cope any longer) I wasn't overly fussed re phones but with getting a MacBook; I think having an iPhone again would just simplify everything... All syncing straight forward etc... When I tried to sync the Note with my iMac it was a painful experience!

in regards to cost; I'm not bothered as its an upgrade on my business contract so it's a free phone!

Play music makes things easier. Download the music manager, point it at your itunes folder and let it do it's stuff. Once it's matched/uploaded your media you can either stream or download for offline use from play music.
