3GS Unlocking
English

Evening all.

I've been trying to get my 3GS unlocked for a while now but every time i try the providers website says 'sorry, we can't unlock your phone at this time'

It would seem that Apple aren't supplying the codes for the moment.

Anyone know why?

Cheers.

Cliff.

RE: 3GS Unlocking

If you got the 3GS from a network provider, they should provide you with an unlock code for free after 12 months of ownership.

Thanks BB but unfortunately its second hand.

Although its locked to Orange, many companies will provide an unlocking service for a fee(about £50), but it seems said service is offline at the mo'.

Just wondered if anyone knew why?

Cheers.

I bought mine second hand and transferred my existing Vodafone SIM card into it. At the end of the contract I phones Vodafone and they unlocked it for me free of charge. Try Orange again when your phone contract is up or when the phone is 12 months old. They should play ball.

Possibly not much help, but I just went the the "mobile guy" on Leather Lane market (London), handed over £20 and came back 20 mins later to an unlocked iPhone 3GS.

Not sure, but it took my T-mobile SIM card, having been previously locked to O2.  It does have a program called "Cydia" which I've never seen before.

Hi,

Cydia seems to be of use to 'jailbroken' phones.

Possibly not a fully supported unlock of your phone.

Cheers,

Cofnchtr.

It worked - so no complaints from me - I've now upgraded to a 5 - so the unlocked 3GS will be passed on.

RE: 3GS Unlocking

Thing is, with jail broken phones if you try to update to the next I.o.s release it can end up 'bricking' your phone. And once jail broken there's no going back.

thanks for all the comments but I'm still none the wiser regarding Apple.

anyone?

Cheers.

Cliff.
