streaming pics and movies to an iPad
Hi,
Quick question regarding the iPad from someone completly new to Apple products.....
I'm considering getting an iPad, it will mainly be used in the home, so don't think I need 3G.
But with regards to memory I need some help:
Is it possible to stream movies and pictures from a NAS or Networked PC (not Mac)? (I won't be streaming music - have Sonos)
Does the NAS or PC need to have Itunes installed?
If it's easy to stream larger files I see no need for anything bigger than 16GB..... correct?
I'm a bit suspicious of installing itunes on my PC for the first time as I've never used it and don't want it to effect anything else like music library etc.
Any advice appreciated.
Thanks for the reply, I'll check it out.

as long as the files are in a format that the ipad can read then yes it can stream anything.
you will need iTunes to update the iOS (unless the new one does not need iTunes).
an interesting comment there from me.
it aint that easy. or I have not found the solution yet.

If you want to have content on your iPad permanently then you'll need iTunes to transfer the files to and from your iPad. I'm a mac user so I can't help with what would happen if you installed itunes on your PC I'm afraid and how it would play nicely or otherwise with whatever software you currently use.
However, one of the synology NASs would stream movies and photos and music without the need for itunes, have a look here http://blog.synology.com/blog/?p=19 and here http://blog.synology.com/blog/?p=221 by using Synology's free apps, DS photo, DS music and DS file.
Hope this helps
