During the summer, when I am in the south of France for a few months, my iPad 3 gets hot enough not to be usable resting on bare legs but it takes about 30 minutes. When I have used it in direct sun, it has tripped the overheat protection and I have put it in the fridge in a plastic bag for a while, to cool down. It does not get as hot as my previous MacBook Pro, a 2009 13" model, which once got hot enough to give me blisters on my legs. My current 15" Retina MBP, never gets as hot as that, other than around the Magsafe 2 power port, where it can become very hot, if I am charging from a low battery and simultaneously doing processor intensive work, like converting a large batch of RAW images to TIFF in Capture One.

Just got it back and they have done nothing with it.  If the problem persists I have to take it back and see what they can do.

I've a ipad 2 and the temp

I've a ipad 2 and the temp never changes, but my wife ipad 3 run hot after 10/15 min of being on.

Some friend have ipad 4 and have the same problem as 3, i think it's normal working temp, maybe due different processor or batery design...

As my 2 take less time to charge as my wife 3.

Not me.  I got the iPad 4 sorted with a firmware update.  My niece now has that though.
