Ebay app

Tried the Ebay app on my iPad 2 to make a last second bid today and I missed the bid. A little later I tried again on another item and missed again. I then checked another item on my laptop running Chrome and the iPad app was running about 3.5 seconds behind the laptop.
Any ideas why it should be behind?
