BeoPlay A3 iPad dock - why didn't anyone think of it before?

It's been a technology day for me & my wife at London today, having witnessed the pinnacles of human achievement: the tallest building in the EU (Shard), the best TV money can buy today (Panasonic VT50), the world's first glasses-free 3D TV (Toshiba - not that impressed), one of the largest plasma TVs (85-inch Panasonic, although 103 & 152 inch versions are also available, but were not on display), the best phone (Samsung Galaxy S3) & the world's highest resolution laptop (MacBook Pro with retina display).

But what impressed us the most was this wonder from B&O:

The sound quality was surprisingly good. It actually seemed like a logical invention, but why didn't anyone figure this out before?
