Now the ATV3 has Mirroring, if you have Sky go can it be mirrored on to your TV?

No.

Even ATV2 has mirroring. Sky Go app does not allow it.

Yup, its a copyright thing.  The HDMI is disabled on the Sky Go app as well.

I thought AirPlay *Mirroring* simply displayed whatever is on the iPad's/iPhone's screen?

 

For clarity, this isn't the same as choosing the AirPlay button in the video-window. This is hitting the home button twice, swiping all the way to the left, then choosing the AirPlay button from there and sliding the Mirroring switch to 'on'. 

 

What happens under these circumstances with the Sky Go app? Is there just a blank area on the TV screen where the content should be?

Whatever way you try, as soon as you click on Sky Go app, it doesn't open, saying that Sky Go doesn't support this feature.
