RE: Which Android phone?

worth noting that generally only the nexus range of phones will have full google backed support.  All of the others require manufacturer/carrier updates.  that means that if a manufacturer decides to, you won't get an update for your phone unless you go down the custom rom route.

Sony's new phones are damn fine, but their lack of support with updates in the past has been a tad slack to say the least.

Just something to think about.

That's all changed with Motorola.

No it is a Motorola-shaped one.  Or at least it should be tonight.

Well, yes, if price is the only consideration.

RE: Which Android phone?

Price is a major consideration. I don't need my phone to do many things, and I strongly suspect the Motorola will do all those things rather better than an iPhone 4 running iOS7. I hovered over the 'buy' button of a Nexus 5 for quite some time but in the end decided it's actually bigger than I would like, so saved my money.

My iPhone 4 has just got stuck thinking it has headphones all the time, which means I can't make calls without headphones in, which is a serious PITA. This, combined with the fact that iOS7 has made it run like a dog, is the last straw. Which Android phone can you recommend? I love the look of the Sony Experia Z, which has just been slashed down to £330, and the Nexus 5 is the obvious alternative, but what about the Moto G, which seems a serious bargain? Is that a player or is it going to annoy me by being too slow?

I went for the Nexus 4 then the Nexus 5 and now eagerly awaiting the mighty Nexus 6.  Half the price twice the power.  And to cap it all for £7.50 PCM I get the usual text, free minutes and data etc.  Why on earth pay any more?  Simples!

As an aside, with the money I saved (well, that and the unbought Kate Bush tickets), I felt obliged to buy this:
