Do I need AV software for my Nexus 7 ?

Will be getting a Nexus 7 tablet for my birthday (thanks wife ) and as I`m new to the tablet experience would like to know if I need anti-virus software and if so , what are the best options ? Thanks.

I'm not sure if you even need an anti virus software for an Android device. I've never had any problems so far.

I would go for avast anti virus from the play store.

It's free, scan apps you install and has web browser anti virus.

If you root your device it even has a firewall that can be used.

I'm using it on my galaxy s3 and galaxy tab 2 7.0 and it works like a dream

I don't think it's really necessary tbh, as long as you're sensible about what you install and where you source things from, i.e avoid sideloading apps from blackmarkets etc. A lot (most) of the 'articles' you see about security issues with Android are FUD marketing.

Though for peace of mind you could always install one of the free AV from play

I use Lookout myself, though mainly for it's backup and device finder...
