RE: Chrome Now Available On Android [ICS Only]

Tried it on a Samsung galaxy Nexus. While works well enough and the syncronise feature with my PC chrome is nice, its inabilty to hide the url bar and have true fullscreen is annoying. Might perservere with it for security reasons as would only require an app upgrade to address any security issues, unlike the builtin android browser which would require an android operating system update which depending on phone manufacturer can take its sweet time.

But... but... but... then you won't be able to play Flash videos on Android devices...

And we all know from those initial discussions about the iPad how important this is for Android users.

No point in supporting Flash for mobile devices.

Yeah right - the fact that 90% of internet web sites still support flash is no reason

iSheep. £600-700 for a 800Mhz phone with 3.5'' screen that you can't customise, doesnt support standards, and most apps you have to pay for. Kiss

I think it's pretty clear what 'percentage' of the Internet you are referring too :p. but Android phones are so huge you need two hands to peruse, that must get a bit, Erm, frustrating for you?   >)

I've got HTC Sensation. If you want to visit a Flash enabled website, simply use the default Android browser. Google chrome for Android is made with future in mind. The websites will eventually have to change to HTML 5, or have a mobile version, given the popularity of mobile devices.

Nothing like a nice sweeping statement, there's plenty of Android devices that are smaller than the iPhone. And we'll leave aside the not very veiled judgment on Android users as well thank you.

RE: Chrome Now Available On Android [ICS Only]

Returning to the OP, Chrome is still not quite as fast as Firefox, although it does integrate nicely with chrome on your desktop and is pretty good for an initial version. Firefox/Opera are still slightly quicker and have flash support.

The big difference with ICS (4.x) is that android is now GPU accelerated on HTC Desire and newer.

If you like benchmarks - Sunspider (lower is better)

SG2 - (2.3.5) Firefox - 1450

SG2 - (2.3.5) Chrome - 1550

Razr Maxx ( 4.0.2 ) - Firefox - 1650

Iphone 4S - (IOS5) - 2200

HTC Desire (2.3.5) Firefox - 2400

Iphone 4 - (IOS5) - 3500

Iphone 3GS - (IOS5) - 4700

The Apples are looking a bit slow in the benchmark they used to trumpet, although they only liked to compare stock browsers - which is kind of silly when you're comparing customisable phones.

No you aren't, even compared to your usual bullshit that was an astonishingly offensive post. I have to say the mods have been incredibly lax recently, I wouldn't have let a comment like that through if it were me.

EDIT: Interesting, looks like the swear filter isn't working...

I will have to agree with the_lhc here. That post was certainly out of your character. Anyway, no point in discussing this further. Let's just forget & move on.

Fair enough, if it was offensive then apologies to to Joe.  Just surprised is all, didn't think it was such a touchy subject (if you will pardon the pun).
