Will redecorate for sound!

May have posted this in the wrong place earlier... so putting it here in the hope someone will help. OK... so the title isn't entirely true, but I am in the middle of doing up my lounge and this will be the room that will house my first home cinema kit. I haven't decided yet if I'm going to put down hardwood floor or carpet. My question is with each, what are the best "feet" for my speaker stands and sub? am I right in saying that spikes are a must on carpet and not so for wooden floors? Thanks
