WHF Team and others - HDMI splitter. Friend or foe?

I have a projector and a CRT, but will be joining the flat-screen revolution very soon. Ideally I would like to use my AV receiver to send signal to both, but therein lies the snag - one HDMI output.

My questions are: 

a) Is a HDMI splitter likely to cause significant loss of quality? I'm looking at models such as the Neet 2-way HDMI splitter for £30 (has good user reviews on Amazon).

b) Are there other HDMI splitters you would recommend?

c) How do AV receivers with 2 HDMI outputs do it? Do they essentially have a HDMI splitter incorporated under the hood?
