Hi there I currently have a sky hd box and a Sony hdd DVD recorder running through a Yamaha ysp 30d into a Sony w2000 tv. They are all connected via various hdmi cables but I have recently ordered a Sony Bdp s790 Blu ray player . I will be needing to add a switch at some point as I have only two hdmi inputs into my tv and ysp and three devices running . Do I need two switches ? One at tv and one at ysp and do I need the hdmi cables with Ethernet to carry my wi fi data from Blu ray player to tv ? And is that ok to go thru ysp? Or am I better bypassing it and sending the cable straight to my tv ?

Thanks again happy new year to all

AFAIK no hardware manufacturer has implemented HDMI with Ethernet, so forget about that.

No such thing as an HDMI 1.4 cable. They're catergorised as 'Standard' or 'High Speed' (with or without Ethernet).

But the point The_LHC was making is that although cables with Ethernet are available, no hardware manufacturer has implemented it.

You're getting confused here. Of course there are HDMI cables with ethernet. What The_LHC means to say is there are currently no devices (TVs, blu ray players etc.) in the market which makes use of this ethernet capability of HDMI cables. You cannot connect your TV to the internet just because the blu ray player it's connected to, is connected online.
