Sorry to start another thread banging on about this, but it really is annoying that every time my finger inadvertently drifts a couple of millimetres across the pad, a third of my netbook screen is taken up by those damn birds. It's like the bunnies all over again.

Yes, I know I can install adblock, but I appreciate that the reason I can use this site for "free" is because it is ad funded. However, people aren't going to want to use a site which has such incredibly annoying ads, and if people end up going elsewhere then that's no good for the forums, no good for the advertisers, and no good for Haymarket.

Can we get a better balance better advertiser visibility and site usability?

Sorry for the rant. Angel

Actually I think they're adhering to our guidelines a bit better now, in that they contract again as soon as you take your mouse away from the body of the ad...

As I take my mouse away from the body of the ad, which I can't help but move over as it's between the broswer control bar and the main window, the ad expands and the bird follows my mouse down. Surely it can't be good to have an ad on the site that I keep accidently clicking on when I'm trying to hit "log in"?

Samsung, I will never buy one of your tellies. Ever. Are you listening to me? Samsung? And forget about the phones too. It's Nokia from here on in. And that new monitor I'm getting? That's going to be an LG. Pah.

It is very annoying.  Wouldn't mind if the ad stayed where it was, so I could ignore it.  But that dam bird keeps fluttering over just where i want to click.

....while we're on the subject do we need Stella ads that take up most of the page obscuring what you're reading and writing on the forums?

PS.  How do you drink Stella responsibly?  Surely that's the world's biggest contradiction?  Wink

Re: That Samsung ad

Off to PC World last weekend to get my Christmas prezzie - a new monitor. There were shiny black Samsungs and shiny black LGs and nothing to choose between them... except for the fact that LG haven't been annoying me with intrusive ads for months. So LG got my cash.

Now, off to buy some Carlsberg...
