Post ranking: how does it work?

I've just noticed I'm post ranked 2, which I recall has been pretty much the case since around 2,000.posts. When will that change?

Top 10 posters* are 1, next 10 are 2, next 10 are 4, next 10 are 8. Or something like that.
* by volume, as opposed to quality
