Inserting pictures into postings without going via the internet, please!
I am disappointed that in the otherwise improved new site, it still seems to be necessary to put pictures onto the internet (Flickr or something similar) and then link the pictures' URLs in the posting for the picture to appear. Why do we have to put pictures onto the internet first? Why can't we just insert the pictures from our computer folders (in my case, something like C:/Images/Television and speakers/Picture_of_tiered-seating_in_parlour.jpg) into the postings, like inserting pictures from our computer folder locations into a Microsoft Word document? The last time that I tried, there was some reason, connected with Facebook, why I couldn't get an account on Flickr, so I cannot insert pictures of some of my kit, which I would certainly like to do. Please, What Hi-Fi, make it possible for us to put pictures from our computers into forum postings without going via the internet and a URL link.
Unlikely. Other people do photo storage an awful lot better than we do. Try http://photobucket.com, it's what I use.
Let's try this, since clicking the insert/edit image icon on the toolbar just above the What Hi-Fi posting window and inserting the URL into the new window didn't seem to work .... http://s1337.beta.photobucket.com/user/Son_of_SJ/library/#/user/Son_of_S...
Oh dear, I had hoped that the image would come up nice and big! Clearly, I'm doing something wrong in photobucket. Thanks for the tip anyway, Mr Duncan.
Try copy & pasting son_of_sj thats what i do.
Hi simonlewis,
My post just above shows what happened when I copied the actual image, and then pasted it into the What Hi-Fi window! The picture doesn't appear. I guess the alignment of the planets at the time of my birth mean that I'm just not able to do this! Thanks anyway. If you could maybe tell me exactly what you do to get pictures to appear nicely on the Forum, that might help.
Right click on picture select copy,
Then right click on comment box & select paste,
You should have picture in comment box,
save & job done.
You do need to left click on comment box before you paste.
A) You would not be able to easily remove them anytime afterwards without assistance from WHF staff. (Whereas you can delete the photo from photobucket - or flickr - and it will cease to show here even if you can't edit the post anymore.)
B) It makes the WHF website 'host' to your photos and takes up a lot of room on their server.
I think that's why (or partly why).

Chebby, thanks for your reasons, I never thought of that!
simonlewis, thanks for your more detailed instructions, but I'm clearly not doing something that is so obvious to you and others that it need not be said. Apologies for my stupidity, I've been forty minutes on this and I'll give it another ten minutes before I give up. You managed to insert my first picture nicely into this forum, whereas I cannot. I have now uploaded a second picture onto photobucket, and as you see earilier in this posting, still the picture itself doesn't appear on here, only the link! (Which does become active upon clicking, but it would be nice not to have to click, I want the picture itself to appear here!) So can I ask one more question. In your earlier instructions, you said "Right click on picture select copy. Then right click on comment box & select paste. You should have picture in comment box. Save and job done. You do need to left click on comment box before you paste." I'm assuming that those instructions are for the photobucket environment, after I have uploaded the picture from my computer into photobucket? Because that's what I did (or thought I did) with the second picture with Adele on the TV, and instead of actually getting the picture in my post above, I got only the URL to photobucket!
WOW! You have tiered seating in your parlour? Respect! That really IS Home Theatre
And you clearly have more friends than I do (or a bigger family). Very nice - I think you need a universal remote, though..
son_of_sj i could only copy & paste the smaller image and NOT the larger image that you have on your second link.
If you are copy & pasting your links, you should be able to do the same with your photographs, (but not your larger ones obv).
Hah! Neither more friends (only two, sob!) or family (none!) than you, Petherick sir, Reggie Perrin man!. I'm the only person who likes all my remote controls though, which I quite like to have on display to impress both my friends (it's an - inadequate - male compensation thing!) (Eight remotes in the parlour, four in the kitchen and four in the bedroom - sad, huh?)

Go to the picture in photobucket.
Look down the right-hand side and find where it says 'Direct Link'.
Click on that and it confirms with a bubble saying 'copied'.
Come back over here and click on the little tree (insert/edit image) symbol.
(You can see it above where you are writing, to the left of the big underlined 'A' symbol.)
This comes up with an 'Insert/edit image' panel.
Paste in (Ctrl V) the 'Direct Link' URL (that you copied from photobucket) where it says "Image URL". Now press the "Insert" button at the bottom of the panel...
