Are you using Internet Explorer?  Read this:

Does this apply for Vista? Before the pc had its MOT it was trouble free.

Disabling rich text might do the job. Changing the avatar is fun too.

And it's not the browser, it's the forumsoftware. I visit a few fora, and non of them are having the same issues as the WH forum (type a reply, hit save, and everything's gone)

Done - sneakily went into Chrome at the same time as leaving standard Google open.
