Not if there's a reasoned purpose behind the thread. If it's spamming/trolling, then yes.

Well if the reason was to get the forum moving again with interesting, enjoyable subject matter, I think it's failed. The title is negative and confrontational.
No. Only by people not reading the whole thread and getting the point of it. The OP is an Arcam fan and wanted to generate some discussion and chat with other (sometimes absent) forum users.
It's not down to you or I to say what should and shouldn't be allowed on a forum.

Have you actually bothered reading the thread? It's a perfectly polite discussion on the issues Arcam are having at the moment with their firmware. More interesting than this thread, which is in the wrong sub-forum as well...
No signature worth mentioning...
As polite as ever, and yes I have read the whole thread so no need for the patronizing comments.
Moved, but I suspect not long for this world.

Well then, other than the title, which was clearly to generate interest (which seems to have worked), what's the problem, the thread is quite interesting, if you ask me (which you did, incidentally, by starting this thread)?
And there was nothing impolite in my reply, I don't know what you read into it.
You all realise, of course, that threads like this are killing this forum, which is now known only for the rustle of rolling tumbleweed in the breeze, despite the heroic attempts by a few dedicated members to beat some final vestiges of life from the trembling corspe.
Damn - and I bought a e-defibrillator specially, as well...

It is no longer possible to see the more hidden popularity of the forum.
Once it was possible to see how many registered members there were. It was also possible to see how many people were logged in (sometimes as many as hundreds) and it was possible to see what people were searching for. (The number of seaches every day was mind boggling.)
The search facility is a 'basket case' compared to how good it used to be, so I imagine searches have dropped considerably since the site revamp.
No point in speculating about the numbers logged in at different times of day as the page is no longer available.
I am not aware of vast numbers of people leaving. A few left because they felt frustrated that they could no longer promote their favourite hifi gear in every single post without someone feeling free to challenge their statements. One or two were banned. One (sadly) died recently.
I think the forums are still 'bouyant' and the posts are (largely) still interesting to many.
It is still the most civilised forum. Attacks and offensive language are dealt with and spammers/trolls dispatched promptly.
It is also not a "single product/company" forum like those run by some dealers and manufacturers (Harbeth, Naim, AVI, ATC, Cyrus etc.) which means threads don't go AWOL - and people don't get attacked - for mentioning someone else's products in a positive way!
It's summer, people are taking their holidays (like Clare and Maxflinn*). Pay-day - for a lot of people - and great weekend weather also probably contributed to any lull in posting.

PP was trying to ignite a bit of discussion on the forum as all has gone a bit quiet. If you look at his sig you could tell it was a tongue in cheek thread.

Thing is, it hasn't.
Well no offense was meant, in fact I was just being ironic. I always understood the intentions of PP's post, but as you have stated things haven't gone quite, in-fact I for one have been enjoying the forum of late. Maybe it's just a case of the forum not quite heading in the direction that most old hands would like it to go in. I don't think there is any need to stir things up at all. I know for older posters the repeat questions might seem boring, but this forum is also designed to help/ enthuse people who have found a new interest or love of music. Any way I think I'll leave it there, no malice was meant and it seems I have already alienated the majority. Maybe I will just stay in the wings and read the content from now on.
