The meaning seems pretty clear, and it's a shade more exciting than "best", which, if you're allergic to poetic license, is about all you'll be left with.

I have to admit it is getting used a lot in the magazines these days, perhaps an alternative suggestion is in order from some one?

Once upon a time it was only Stuff magazine that used the term 'killer' a lot, now it's spreading like the plague!
