November issue - The Ultimate 32in TV Supertest

Apologies for that: when it came down to it, there were insufficient new sets in what we thought was the most popular size-range in the UK to make a meaningful test. Best bet is therefore to refer back to our online 32in tests  for the current pick of the bunch, but I'll ask our review team to join in on this thread if they have any more specific suggestions.

we'd suggest taking a look at the Samsung UE32D6530. It's a great TV, with full Smart functionality and produces a superb 2D picture. Freeview HD images are a a particualr strong point. 3D images are still perfectly watchable. The Samsung is also relatively good value.

Panasonic's TX-L32DT30 is a little more expensive, but still produces a great 2D and 3D picture.

Thanks for the explanation, I am doing as you suggested and checking on previous online tests and making a shortlist.

It is the range of features that are puzzling, smart TVs and TVs with dongles!

I like the look of a Panasonic TX-L32E3 which I have just seen on display at our local Currys it had superb picture quality.

My computer monitor is 24" and I was thinking of getting a similiar size TV screen to sit along side it although the 32" looks nice.

At the moment I'm just setting up my Lenovo laptop to replace my desktop computer which has just expired after years of use, I had four USB TV tuners hooked up to it which were basically used for recording TV programmes to a spare hard drive which I could then watch at leisure.

On my latest computer setup have decided to purchase a dedicated TV instead of having to rely on the computer being switched on all the time in order to watch TV.

A word of caution on the Panasonics (I bought a L32DT30 a few months ago).  In certain situations the corners of the screen are very dark - almost as if you're looking down a tube.  I've had someone come and look at it but they say that it's workied as expected.

It happens most obviously (and reliably) when watching MotoGP.  I took a few photos of it with my phone but I don't think that we can post pics on the forum yet.

In a recent Moto GP that I watched a lot of the trackside shots displayed 'vignetting' on our main Samsung TV although not as pronounced as that shown in your photo.

I put this down to transmission problems and nothing to do with our TV, I have also seen similiar effects in some nature programmes.

If it is a problem on your TV then it is not acceptable and you should contact the place where you bought it and ask them to either fix it or replace it.

I bought it from John Lewis and they sent someone out and they said that there was nothing wrong with the TV, but like you said to do with the transmission.  I'm in two minds TBH - I don't watch much TV, and it doesn't happen on much, but I paid a lot for the TV (they're considerably cheaper now) so I think I should get something that is perfect.
