Best TV wall mounts 2023: budget and premium

Best TV wall mounts Buying Guide: Welcome to What Hi-Fi?’s round-up of the best TV wall mounts you can buy in 2023.

There are plenty of reasons to wall mount your TV; whether that's to achieve a sleek, minimalist setup, to suit your preferred viewing angles, or even because your TV is designed to be wall-mounted. The process may seem daunting, but fear not, as we have a suitable selection of brackets that can accommodate a range of TVs.

How to chose the right wall mount for you

Why you can trust What Hi-Fi? Our expert team reviews products in dedicated test rooms, to help you make the best choice for your budget. Find out more about how we test.

It needn't be daunting, but there are several decisions that you need to make first. For starters, do you want a fixed, tilted or full-motion mount?

A fixed mount is more or less as it sounds – it’s fixed and doesn't move – so you’ll need to make sure the height and location are correct from the get-go. Tilted mounts allow you to tilt the TV’s position downwards, which can help if it has to be mounted higher than you might like - above a fireplace, for example. A full-motion mount can usually swing out between 90 and 180 degrees to help with tight spaces or several viewing positions.

Next, you’ll need to check that the bracket you've got your sights set on can handle the size and weight of your TV. This is usually clearly stated and should be strictly adhered to – they don’t list them for fun.

You’ll also need to know your TV’s VESA size. This is the standard used for TV brackets and wall mounting systems and is the distance between the four mounting holes on the back of the TV, measured in millimetres.

To work it out, measure the distance between the holes from left to right for the first measurement and then top to bottom for the second. The result is your telly’s VESA size. Be sure to check your TV is compatible with the mount you’ve got your eye on before you buy – most will be adjustable, but it’s worth double-checking.

Finally, before you start drilling, you’ll also want to check the wall you have in mind to mount it on is up to the job – and if you’re in any doubt, get expert advice.

Generally, most TVs are too heavy to secure to drywall, and the recommendations are that you fix it to the wall studs or dry-line plasterboard walls. Even then, you’ll want to check for pipes, cables and metal hiding in your wall of choice too, so paying a professional for peace of mind is a great idea in a lot of cases.

We’ve scoured the internet for the best-rated wall mounts at a range of prices. While we haven’t tested all of them ourselves, some are used by What Hi-Fi? staff and the others have been carefully researched, with particular attention paid to user reviews.

Most of the TV mounts listed are standard with standard functionality like pull, swivel and fixed. I recommend adding something like Pull Down TV Mount to give customers more choice when deciding on a TV and which mount to buy with the TV.
