Naim SuperUniti & Tannoy Precision 6.4's

I very recently acquired a second-hand Superuniti to go with a pair of a Tannoy Precision 6.4's and a TS2.12 sub and I thought some members of the Forum might be interested to hear how they perform.

I only use the system for music and have a few hi res and a lot of FLAC files as well as streaming Spotify via an iPad and Apple TV/Toslink.

The sound is warm and with only the very lightest touch of sub is nicely balanced so it's very easy to listen to even if played quite loud and for long periods. With electronic or rock music it punches home the beats and can go way down into the very lowest bass when needed (the SU has a decidated Sub out). With folk or acoustic rock theres an exciting, live feel and instruments have richly textured tones. Vocals often surprise me when they start, being so open and natural. Whilst most of the time I am using Spotify (searching for those good quality gem recordings), but also the hi res classical music files downloaded from 2L do stand out and keep me coming back to listen again.

I had read that the Naim sound was not so orientated towards sound stage however the Tannoy's produce amazing width, height and depth so the speaker locations can disappear and leave you immersed in the music. This has been a revelation for me and the listening position is also far less critical than before. I thought the Tannoys were excellent speakers with my previous amps (a Marantz PM-KI Pearl Lite & a UnitiQute) but the SQ difference between these and the SU is night and day. I suppose given the price differential this might be expected but as a relative newcomer to the Hi-Fi world, I am blown away by the improvement.

I don't know where I am going to get my buzz from buying new bits of kit from now on!

RE: Naim SuperUniti & Tannoy Precision 6.4's

Heard the 6.1s recently powered by a Cyrus Lyric and some respects the Tannoys sounded impressive, although didn't quite hang together as a musical whole. As I wrote in my thread, I think they would benefit from a smoother presentation, but could be wrong.

Pleased you like the Naim/Tannoy combo, hope you have years of pleasure from your system.

Thats a nice write up. I love hearing when other people get that massive wow factor form a new or even an existing Hi-Fi. The more you learn the more wows will come your way. Have you ever been to one of the What Hi-Fi/Audio-T sound and vision shows. I've been going for 6 years and have learnt so much, met some great people and bout things that gave me that wow factor. I recommend the shows.

Now youo've started you might not stop.

Never believe what you read and always find out for yourself, as you now already now. There has been some rubbish given 5 stars and some cracking kit given 3 stars. i'm glad you did what was best for you. Great write up.

I just wanted to say a belated thank you to everyone above for their positive and encouraging responses. What a friendly forum this is!

I am embarassed to admit that I can't seem to work out how to upload a photo?
