Just bought this soundbar from harvey norman recently after an incident passing by the demo counter. I was amaze from the sound created from this tiny soundbar system when they are playing it. Somemore it's on a promotional champagne with special price given to the set.
Though this YHT S-400 has been in the market since late 2009 or early 2010, I still believe one would not regret to have one if u r looking for a budget yet neat surround sound system which can give you a thumbs up sound system.
How surround? Well, from the review saying that one could hardly satisfied with the surround feeling & listening. To me, if you can find a perfect seating place with your position near a back wall which can give you the sound reflection. This is it. You are near to the projected Air Surround Extreme as offered! I manage listening to the surround field when watching Avatar and RIO. I enjoyed movies very much nowadays as having this set of system.
As for the stereo sound, it's a bit troubling me at this moment as am still finding a good reason to persuade myself that this is a good set up. Not to say not good at this moment, all I am saying is I am still exploring this tiny system for a perfect sound setting a.k.a. its digital setting by using the remote control. One thing for sure is you would not want to fire up the subwoofer/receiver which will create uneasy loud bass reflection. My suggestion is if you are pushing the volume over 50~60, you are best to set the bass volume lower than +3 or at +2 is the best.
This setup is exactly what I was after for high quality sound reproduction from TV and DVD/BluRay with the addition of a sub which has been totally missing from my setup.
100% happy with the ease of setup, build quality and sound quality. The sub adds meat to the sound throughout and really adds to the heavy bass moments in films.
If you really want a surround sound effect though then it may not be for you as the 'extended stereo' does not really create any surround-like effects for me when watching BluRay or DVD movies; rather it just gives a wider sound stage than the bar set on regular 'Stereo' does.
