Just purchased the Sony RDR-HXD995MR multi region dvd recorder for £219.99 from richer sounds and its superb. Dvd quality upscaled is superb make me wonder if all the blu ray dvds i purchased was worth the money as the quality is excellent.
I record most programmes on HQ mode and its still can store up to 55 hrs which is very good for my needs as i copy to disc if i want to keep the programme.
Would highly recommend this recorder to anyone looking for one.
HHmmmm got one of these as a present for my sister. It was purchased sepcifically for her to be able to record from her Sky plus and ultimately burn and save long term.
So far has been a nightmare and a disaister ! . it took weeks to finaaly get the guide plus to down load the sky plus EPG (Euro sport uk , channel 410). Credit to Sony customer suport who have been very good. Finally got it to download the SKY + EPG. It worked for 4 weeks , stopped downloading and has not done so since. Its a Nice Machine i suppose but gets a big thumbs down from me because of its poor set up and perfomance with external decoders. Wish this had been looked at more closely in the review. Think ill get rid and get my sister a Panasonic instead.

You can get the multi region spudval that plays dvds from all region.
Look out for the MR after the model number for multi region
A big negative for me is it's not multi-region.
so if anyone can come up with a hack it would be nearly perfect.
Although I have read that the digital reception needs a strong signal.
