I have just bought this model. However I curious if it is how the sound like, even my Samsung DVD player model HD-860 (year 2006) has greater sound realism than this brand new Sony BD player. Maybe I should not highlight this, considering that it is what the Sony is, just accept it.
Overall design is excellent, it has 2 USB port, one at rear to hide fixed connection to hard disc. Screen display can be turned off so it won't appear during movie show.
Just one thing, it cannot read data from pendrive and hard disc in NTFS format, but only FAT32. So we need to format them into FAT32. While other brands like Samsung and LG can read both. Does Sony realise that FAT32 format has some weaknesses as compared to NTFS? We cannot transfer a data to FAT32 hard discs which is more than 4GB in size, then we would have to do extra job to split files which consume a lot of time.
I love this player, its slim, heavy, brave. While my mouth keep saying FAT32, FAT32, 100 times a day
Hi a very old thread I know but I am a bit confused and I hope someone can help me. I have a 26 inch Philips lcd in the bedroom. It was advertised as 720p max resolution. When I got a sky hd box to go with it I thought i'd test these claims by setting the box to 1080i max output. The tv had none of it and the box switched itself back to 720p. I bought this blu ray player earlier this year. I went through the initial setup wizard for some reason I wanted to know what would happen if I set the blu ray to 1080p output. The tv actually took this setting and flashed up 1080p in the corner of the tv screen. Confused I turned on the sky hd box and set it to 1080i. The tv now accepted this setting its as if the blu ray player has affected the max resolution of my tv which is now 1080p. Should this be possible??? I will post the model number of the tv when I get home. Just want to know how this possibly happened.
The resolution your TV can display and the resolution it can handle (and downscale to fit its own display) are two different things: many HD Ready sets can easily handle 1080p Blu-ray or other higher-resolution inputs. The Blu-ray player won't have magically changed anything - sorry!
Just ordered one to replace an ageing analogue Sony HDD/DVD recorder. Looking forward to the huge improvement in image and sound quality from ditching the scart/optical links (Chord HDMI also on order).
Bearing in mind this is my first foray into high def I've been absolutely blown away by this player. Not only do Blu-Ray discs look amazing, it's given a new lease of life to my DVD collection - superb upscaling, they've never looked better.
I also love the fact I can watch BBC iPlayer, but where's 4OD and ITV Player? The other streaming services are pretty pointless though...
Have just ordered mine from Amazon for �99.99 delivered! It's to replace my BDPS 550 as I now have a new amp and don't need the multi channel outs but I do want iPlayer and YouTube...

This player knocks the socks off the Sony BDP-300 that i got with my TV. Fastest loading, fantastic Pictures and excellent sound.
I havent got one myself yet (even though I'm sorely tempted) but all the other peeps who have bought one confirmed loading times are extremely fast, better than a PS3. Which is good news!
Just bought this to replace my ageing first generation Sony purely to playback DiVx but was pleasantly surprised at the connectivity and audio/video quality overall.
Yes the buttons on the front are small and almost useless but who uses them anyway?
Made it DVD all region by the old "One For All" hack in seconds and the front & rear USB connections are real handy, although it didn't want to read my 2 TB drives.
At a cost of the equivalent of £90, it is outstanding value for money, but remember to fit the extra memory at the rear!
Picture quality is excellent but there dropouts in the sound (on both BD and DVD) when the BDP is connected to certain Sony TV sets like my KLV-32S400.
Fantastic player, DIsk load is faster than the Sony I had. Using with a samsung LCD and registers as an anynet device, all the menu can be used from my samsung remote.
I have been nothing but delighted with mine and have suffered none of the complaints that others have mentioned. I also bought the wireless device to download iplayer, etc which is great, a real bonus. Films etc look great on this machine, and I actually like the styling!

Benjamin. no my review was another opinion. So far I have owned 5 blu ray players ps3, 3 sony, and a panasonic. I currently have and s760 connected to my 50" kuro in the livingroom and new new cheapo sony connected to a 46" samsung in my bedroon. the 760 seems under specified in comparison and will be changed as soon as sony add the streaming features to more upmarket models. I havent experienced any of the issues you seem to have. yes it is cheap and the I dont like the styling- especially the dust collector at the front- but load times and features are streets ahead of other models I have owned. I am not sure what you expect for the money but good luck finding it!
I bought this for �119 multiregion to replace a budget (sony) player from last year. mian reason was the lovefilm app and BBC iplayer etc. As far as I am concerned it was worth it for this alone. BBC iplayer has BBCHD on it and it work really well- much better than PS3 and can be paused stopped etc. Lovefilm gives the option of streaming films and tv (if you have an unlimited package) REALLY impressed with picture quality for this seems better than apple tv (standard def) and dont pay any more for watching (older titles) films can be paused ffw, rwd etc (although not in real tme) Really nice interface too. why cant apple let you watch older titles for free?- oh and it plays bluray and dvd too! I will replace my sony 760 in the living room when a more "upmarket" version is added by sony as it is much quicker at loading discs too. for �119? fantastic value!
Just bought one, was hoping to connect my 500GB Seagate portable expansion drive via the USB port to watch downloaded movies through it, however the BDP-S370 doesn't recognise it. I've spoken to Sony support and there's no official list of what devices do and don't work with it, or how to troubleshoot such issues...
I know the port itself works because my 2GB (sony) memory stick works fine.
Very please with this! Picture excellent with my 40EX503. Have made it multi region & upgraded the firmware to get iPlayer & other features.Connected via ethernet cable.
Have noticed that I get a sound dropout on Bluray once or twice during a film for 2 or 3 seconds but if I rewind disc plays ok - curious. DVDs play ok & upscalling improves picture.
So far I've only played 3 blu ray discs and they were exceptional , This replaces my Toshiba HD player that cost me £500, greatest feature has been BBC iplayer. I've found something to watch everynight. Does anyone know if I can record iplayer to an external HDD via usb on this?
This machine has a serious compatibility problem with Sony's W-series of Bravia TV sets. The problem lies in the sound falling out every few minutes, whether from a blu-ray disc, DVD or USB file. The machine works perfectly with my Samsung TV and a friend's old D-series Sony, but everyone with a W-series encounters this problem. Sony were as unhelpful as ever seeming not to even understand the issue. So, be warned at moment if you have W-series Bravia do not buy this - otherwise excellent - machine.
Sound drops out on Sony Bravia W series TV. As someone else said before, if you have a Sony W series TV do NOT buy, unless you can cope with the sound stopping on play back! Great picture, but seriously, not compatible with a same brand TV set!?!?! Sony, I think you need to investigate!
@neil74......iam using my 320gb samsung hdd with this one what u have to do is format your hard disk with fat32 file system and ensure that it doesnt have partitions(i mean only 1 base partition),no un-allocated space......use paragon disk manager for the same and then u can use your hard disk
and the player i baught on may 21 its mind blowing superb value for money and incredible performance....it even plays full hd divx and mkv files(x264) with dts audio.......i loved bravia internet video....love surfing youtube on this one......tried to update its firmware todat but error came when it was in 6/9 stage..of downloading tried 3 times.....u will try burning onto disk and updating it later......overall i will like to give
Following the good reviews I bought my Sony 370 through John Lewis cost �99 as I traded in al older DVD unit. Blu Ray disc play is fantastic, no issues with whinning as others say. Picture quality is great (viewed on Sony 40ex530 LCD). I do have a sound issue however, with DVD, Blu Ray and CD's all operating about half the sound level of normal TV? Not sure why, I suspect a setup issue.
The best bit about this player is the access to the BBC Iplayer, Lovefilm and other on line apps. Definately worth every penny !
I would not recommend this player at all, it makes a loud annoying mechanical/electrical noise during use.
Once a disc is loaded it makes a constant high pitched whine i can hear when the film goes quiet from 5 metres away, no matter what surface the player is on or how much room it has. Even when no internet or HDMI cable is plugged in.
I got a replacement player from Play and the new one is exactly the same. Not acceptable for me. Maybe i've been unlucky and some are fine, but very annoying. Perhaps i just have sensitive hearing, who knows.
i've moved house and sit much further away from the player so hardly hear the noisyness of it now, its still there when i get close. others can hear it when they strain. i have sensitive hearing it seems. be wary.
I've just got one of these in the sale at Sainsburys for the insane price of £99.99. How unbelievable is that ? Within 2 minutes of connection it was set up. The picture and sound quality are quite frankly stunning. The ability to connect a USB to view pictures or DIVX files is a great bonus and both work perfectly.
There are many other features I haven't delved into yet, but for the picture and sound alone this is easily worth twice the price I paid.
Sony's BDP-S370 is almost a perfect player IMHO, but where it falls short is in music repoduction.
I have an ageing Denon 1920 DVD/DVD-Audio/CD/SACD player and it beats the Sony by such a clear margin in terms of detail, clarity and realism that I've decided to keep it on. This lead applies to all formats, regardless of whether they are PCM or DSD based.
The Sony sounds decidedly thin and sterile when placed against such competition. I wonder if the BDP-S570 fairs any better in this regard.
I have a Sony KDL 32P 3020 tv and was thinking about getting this bluray player. does anyone know if the sound 'drops' out if these two devices are connected? i hear some sony bravia tv's do have a problem with this bluray player. any help would be appreciated.
No replacement offered from Sony as after comparison with another player it seems the noise issue affects all the players. Whilst the sound and picture quality are undeniably brilliant the noise problem remains hard to ignore and I belive Sony should be docked a star from their review.

I'm looking to upgrade from Panasonic bd35 - one of the most important deciding factors would be disk load times - are these improving yet?

Wakedux - the S370 is the fastest loading deck at the moment - it really is fast.
I do think though that the BD35 has a better colour palette than the Sony, looks slightly overblown to me.

The hdd needs to be in FAT format plus the sony might not be able to juice up the hdd. Probably can handle only pen drives.
Unable to connect to the internet!! Every time I try it, it keeps restarting every few minutes. Really anoying!!!
I updated once the firmaware via CD, and no improvements.

awesome picture but fan/drive noise like a PC/PS3. On my 5th one, even tried getting a mains conditioner to help. very annoying.

Awesome picture, sound and internet connectivity options...BUT...It seems to be "hit and miss" with this machine.
I am on my second from John Lewis. Both have resonated a very high pitched noise during BluRay playback.
Per disc, the noise is produced during random chapters of playback, and is very irritating.
Are Sony aware of this issue I know I am not the first to have reported it?
