Top Blue - no 'game' being played, and our expert reviews are certainly not 'bogus'.

We blind test products like these, and only report benefits.

It's a pricey product that'll only suit higher-end systems - if you haven't heard it running in such a set-up, maybe you should put your prejudices aside and have a listen?

Oh dear Oh dear. This sort of product is aimed at people who have more money than sense. However the most amusing part for me is the review.

"It???s detailed, involving and full-bodied, giving instruments plenty of space to breathe. Basslines are tightly controlled, delivering plenty of power and depth, while vocals sound wonderfully smooth and emotive. Worth every penny."

This is so obviously a standard phase, presumably in the reviewers list of pull-down cliches, that can be applied to any component being reviewed. The reality is that a mains cable will make diddly sqatt difference. There is already a mile of mains cable before it gets to your little socket on the wall. Why is spending a huge amount on that last metre going to make any difference? I really feel sorry for people drawn in by this sort of thing, and the fact that review magazines go along with does nothing more than devalue the magazines themselves. When you realise that review magazines play along here, you have to suspect that everything else they review is likely to be just as bogus. Presumably there is a pull-down list of options for each review, "full bodied", "Basslines are tightly controlled". It is a nonsense, but it is amusing as long as you know the game they are playing!

For goodness sake, give over.  The benefits of decent quality mains leads are apparent to 95% of people - if you can't (or don't want to) hear any difference thats fine too.  If you discount some of the proposed benefits about the construction of a cable (generally) then it should still be clear that better purity of conductor, the better a connection and so on does have a difference, especially on the impedance of the mains supply as much as anything else.

If component quality really made no difference, wouldn't we all be listening to a Tesco Value Micro system?

Well, it goes without saying that over tens or hundreds of miles of electrical wiring from the power station to your fusebox, then the tens of feet to your socket, that only the last thirty-odd inches of wire should be prone to interference.

That's just common sense.

I won't ever pay money like this for a kettle lead.

Neither should anyone else.

At the very least a review claiming what this one does (nonsense) should dismantle this piece of wire and it's connectors and see how it's constructed. Otherwise it's doing a really good job of supplying electricity straight from the grid and removing money from your pocket.  The properties of conductors are well known.  Improving music isn't one of them.
