Thoroughly likeable and admirable speakers made to sound just fractionally off the pace by some very accomplished rivals

Just to add some further insight after listening to these for 3 months now with a variety of kit.  I still absolutely love them.  They are true all-rounders and pay the same level of respect to all types of music.  They benefit from real care with positioning - giving them a bit of breathing space really helps them to give their best - and they thrive on the end of a slightly warm sounding amplifier and toed in towards the listening position.  Removing the cloth grilles has a big impact on the sound as well. I would recommend caution if you have a very small room but otherwise make sure they are on your audition list because they are superb.

These are magnificent speakers.  Punchy, dynamic, and with plenty of air in the sound.  The top end sparkles when it needs to but never strays into being harsh, and the frequency range is beautifully integrated.  On solid stands, the Mezzo 2s create a broad and detailed soundstage with excellent tonal accuracy and presence.  They are extremely honest about the recordings you feed them but reward with a level of clarity and insight that lesser speakers struggle to provide.  They are a completely different proposition to the 9 series speakers, being much more refined although retaining the exciting energy of their cheaper brothers.  I compared these to the B&W 685s and the Dali Ikon 1s.  Both were excellent but the 685s were a bit dark sounding compared to the Mezzos, and the Ikons, whilst wonderful at the top end, lacked enough bass to really make cellos or bass guitars sing.  The Mezzos give all the refinement of the 685s, and their aspirated tweeter gives much of the top-end openess and atmosphere of the Dalis with a better overall balance than either.  Stunning speakers.

Had these speakers since January and been very impressed so far!

When I first got them and set them up it was like I was listening to my CD's for the first time. I ended up going through my entire collection again!

Now that you can get them cheaper than £450 are they not worth a best buy?

Thanks What Hi Fi exactly as you described:)

Picked up these speakers couple of day ago, after reading the reviews on here as well as on the net, wasn't disappointed.
