Fast, dynamic and tonally balanced; decent resolution; impressive technology; price-tag

  • Against

    Nothing of note

This is a tough area of the market for Merlin to pitch a new pair of interconnects. It's dominated – sonically at least – by Atlas's £48 Award-winning Equator.

The Mozart has impressive technology. The conductors are of a multiple solid core construction to get the best of both solid core (clarity and focus) and multi-strand (weight and power) worlds. These conductors are then resin-coated to reduce oxidisation.

How does the Mozart sound? It's fast, dynamic and tonally balanced enough to sound at home in most systems. The level of resolution is impressive considering the price and the cable's blend of talents means it's as at home with the likes of Eminem as it is Shostakovich.

Merlin's offerings haven't always set our world alight, but this Mozart does just that.
