I have had this amp for one and a half years now. So by now it is well run in. I partner it with MA BX2 speakers.
Source is a yamaha FM tuner.
This amp will not shout at you. It has a soft, laid back presentation. Stereo imaging is excellent, but i am not sure if it because of the tuner. It will suite someone who likes their music subtle. Build quality is very good too with gold plated terminals and detachable power cord.
It is not very dynamic and does not reproduce dynamic changes in tempo very well. Not very good at presenting complex music such as orchestral works. Bass is minimal. At higher volumes sound gets a bit muddled.
I picked my PM6003 up yesterday and am very impressed indeed.
I currently have it hooked up to my Arcam Alpha 7se CD and MS 902 (not the i model) speakers.
The sound is very clear and involving; however when I play a CD (only tried one so far) the bass is quite heavy through the 902s (however I'm sure this is more to do with the speakers and there placement in my room).
I've also tried playing some LPs (using my Project Debut) and with this as the source the sound is fantastic and the bass much more controlled.
I'll get more time to have a listen over the next few days and provide a further update.
This opinion probably won't be of much benefit to the general listener but I'll express it any case!
I bought this amp purely for late night, low volume, listening and it is superb: Detailed, controlled, and just oh so expressive. My "daytime" amp (for more neighbour friendly times!) is a Pioneer A400 so would be rather unfair to compare the two, but this amp is seriously good. If bass is your thing I would say look elsewhere, but I'm pretty thrilled with it to say the least.
I have been using Yamaha RX-V650 receiver along with Definitive Technology Pro Cinema 80 for more than three years. They worked great for movies and I was really satisfied with the performance but not when listening to music, you can notice that there is something missing and you are not thrilled and comfortable while you play music.
So I upgraded my front to Bipolars 8B and Marantz CD 6003 after I auditioned them on Denon PMA-1500AE at the HI Fi shop, but the performance was really disappointing when I hooked them on my Yamaha … Sonially the sound was improved but I didn't get even 25% of the deep bass, details and imaging as when the BP8 were hooked to this Denon, even when I connected my Subwoofer-as per the salesman advice who said that connecting the subwoofer will give better results rather than using an integrated amp-but I guess he was pretty much mistaken.
So I went again and I bought PM6003 after seeing the 5 stars on What HI-FI. The performance of the PM6003 is superb and more than satisfying; I haven't even expected to receive such a clean and deep bass from those speakers. The sound was very detailed, dynamic and lifelike. This amp pumps so much power that could really impress everybody in the room, even some say that it doesn't achieve good-level on high volume, but I have to disagree!!! I found this amp to perform so much better than the Denon PMA-1500AE which is price-wise more expensive than the PM6003. After all, it is a matter of taste, try to audition this amp and discover its capabilities before buying it. thanks
Sizzers, your opinion is so interesting!. The idea of having a "daytime" amp and an amp. for "late night".
I do not know if buying Marantz Pm 6003 I will miss a more vivid sound.
Somebody would say: "don't buy two budget amp's a go to a medium hi-fi configuration (instead of a "budget" one).
Sizzers, what you've chosen is "flexibility".
Well done and thanks for your comment. Maybe the best, in my opinion, about Marantz Pm 6003, having in mind, too, the risk of being bright and over bass expressed by other member in the forum that has bought the Marantz.

I read this review before going to demo it for my cousin and thought WHF were being somewhat gushing...
But wow - I'm not really a Marantz fan but this is an amazing amp. And I don't mean to qualify that with '... for the money'.
I've got a Naim Nait5i which costs over three times as much and I'll tell you - this Marantz really ain't that far off...
Added bonus of the PM6003 is that the remote can also control my Arcam 7se, which was a nice little surprise.
