Once considered ‘stunning for the cash’, the 42LH5000 will now have to make do with being ‘very good indeed’

"Review Part 2"

Excelent Sky HD Picture with my new QED HDMI lead (£50), I had to turn the true motion off though, otherwise there was a slight judder on TV picture, great skin tones and detail in HD compared to my old LCD.

I must say i had to go through the picture setup wizard a few times before I was happy with the picture from my Sky HD box.

Superb TV for the money.

I only bought this TV yesterday from Curry's it was 799 (in what hi-fi it was 750, but I could not find it for that?). I was impressed by the what-hifi mag reveiw, and as we were looking for a TV, I got one for our TV room, its going to be used for Xbox and DVDs, first impressions were how lite it was our 3yr old 37" LCD Phillips is 3 times the weight (progress I guess)..., setup was quick and painless via the on-screen picture setup wizard, although I read that you need to go into the advanced menu to really tweek the set's picture. I tried an Xbox 360 via HDMi at 1080p and the picture seemed very good if a touch dark in the shadows (SEGA rally), you can switch between "modes" like gaming, cinema etc, which does make the picture brighter for gaming, sound was good from the onboard TVs speakers. Standard DVD playback was via a cheap-ish (80) 2yr old Toshiba I have via HDMI (Saving Private Ryan), again the picture was detailed and seemed smoother than my old 1080i Phillips, colours had much more depth, again though a touch dark in the shadows, sound was really good and detailed. In summary, I am very happy with the TV set, I will try it with SKY HD and BlueRay when I get the chance, so maybe a "Review Part 2" will be here soon?? The TV looks great and very stylish, the power saving settings, although a good idea, really just drops the backlight, so I currently have not used it.

very happy.....

What a bargain, looks lovely too, this may persuade me to buy an LG, as many older LG sets are so bad!

Great TV but has some downsides to it. Firstly the 200hz is atrocious..even in low - lots of glitches and movement seemes speeded up in places!!. Have turned it off and is much better for it. They need to go back to the drawing board for the 200hz. Black levels not atrocious but lacking in detail in dark scenes..otherwise very good in daytime scenes

The pluses..great HD pics..very very sharp, nice colours and contrast, even standard dvd looked much better than on my old Tosh LCD,lovely design, very easy to set up..didnt even need the instructions. Sound is very clear and consise but lacks punch..ok for everyday TV but you'll need an amp for movies..this is relevant to a lot of LCD/LED tv's so the problem isn't severe by any stretch

Overall very pleased and i still think this is probably the best sub £1000 42" LCD you can buy at the moment

I my option this is the best TV available for under 1000. In fact when I bought it from Dixons it was only 800 (as of June 2009) which is really good value for the kit you get. It arrived a few days later and so far I have had no complaints. Iv only tested it using my PC and Sony Playstation 3 but the picture you get is really good. Blue Ray films look very crisp and the back light is bright and even.

For video games the game or sports presets for picture set up are really good. Even for general day to day TV freeview use the ambient light detector adjusts the back light for the best result. To summarise an all round good egg.

I bought this TV a few months ago and so far I'm very pleased with the purchase. It cost me around 800. The USB feature is very nice. It plays full hd movies from flash drives, ext. HDDs and so on. Very easy to adjust and at a good price. Also it supports good SD quality. I'm from Bulgaria and here the HD televisions are very exotic for the moment and so far I hadn't had the chance to try the TV with hi-def channels. Also - good design, high and quality volume.

Just had delivery of this 42" bad boy and only paid 699 for it from curry's so get one now before the price goes back up !

Firstly my only gripe is the 200hz which is truly AWFUL and cant understand how LG thought this was a good idea but when switched off the picture is more than satisfactory.

DvD pictures are sharp and crisp even though there not Blu-ray , but when playing my Xbox 360 the high def gaming is second to none , razor sharp images , colours and blacks are excellent...In my opinion the best 42" tv you can buy and with the best standby light I've ever seen , honestly wait till you see it..its like Knight Rider !

The picture on this set is sharp and clear with the 200hz option on low or off, however I was not too impressed with it's inconsistent backlight which is patchy, especially in the corners. The colours are vibrant however the blacks are too light for my liking.
