Single-minded in their approach, the M12is are still right up among the front-runners

I agree.I had the first run version of these and found the uppermids a little "brash" sounding .I was able to get a resistor  added at the speaker connection level and now  find the new 12Mi to be one of the best sounding standmounts  at anywhere near their price. They do everything the more expensive Totems,Dynaudios and Harbeths do, plus they do not compress like so many stand mounts when pushed a little. Most importantly, they are very good on vocals ,sounding quite natural, organic and alive. The sound always remains open, transparent, detailed. The fit and finish are world class.Well done as per usual by the folks at Epos.

I have a pair of these speakers and do not find any coarseness in the uppermids nor issues with a treble that is too bright. The most recent versions have added a 2.2 ohm resistor to the crossover hence I think the problem reported in this review reflects the early version which I found a bit bright and hard sounding in the upper mids.I agree with all the other comments regarding PRaT ,detail imaging ,space etc.Like other first order standmounts, these little beauties convey a sense of natural timbre and voicing in the all important midrange.Vocals take on that natural ,warm as in "all one piece" sound that characterizes other high quality first order  speaker designs such as Dynaudio and Green Mountain. They are a real steal at this price point and I highly recommend folks audition the most recent version.
