The '3310 is very accomplished but it just lacks the wow factor needed to justify a full five-star rating

your right extra 200 is alot considering that for 200 you can buy a good low end amp. Also 200 would buy a good stereo amp. One more thing worth mentioning considering the amp is complete at 1200 imagine for extra 200 ontop Denon couldve used this to improve the amps components and sound quality. They should hav made it 1400 and added loads of extra bits to make it sound alot better then rivals.

Hi the reciever has come dwon to £979 on its own and I have got it for 849 as part of package. Now will it be five stars given its functionalty?

This is a great piece of kit when I heard it using a monitor audio RX surround set-up. I think that paying out an additional 200 for something in the "same class" is a big step to make.

Also musically I was impressed in comparison to the Pioneer LX52 with the added warmth that the Denon brought to the equation. Just the type of sound I prefer I suppose.

Making the leap from classic 2-channel to a first a/v receiver was easy. What Hi-Fis user reviews and star ratings helped with my first system, the NAD C320BEE amp and single cd player, and a pair of B & W 602s (along with a friends Yamaha 7000).

After auditioning many, the final choice came down to the NAD t747 and Denon 3310. Denons Audyssey auto calibration system was a nice touch, even if it took over an hour to complete, and was worthwhile, even if the microphone process impaired the total ease of use before set-up. Blu-ray and DVD soundtracks have exceptional clarity without brightness, and timing is very correct.  Ease of control navigation sharply improves after a quick learning curve. The full 104 page owners manual is at times convoluted but organized (a getting started quick flap was helpful).  The interface takes some getting used to, it feels like a text menu system.

As for 2-channel behavior, timing and detail with cd playback, when side-by-side compared with the C320BEE, is surprisingly equal, which I think is a compliment to the Denon all-in-one a/v receiver.  Warm tones and good power. Oh, and the speakers are B&W 602s with a B & W HTM61 center channel.

Perhaps the quality of the speakers brings out the full potential of the Denon, and theres an abundance of features, but in the end, cost was the final clincher here.

A multitude of hookups, plenty of HDMI ports, a front usb port for upgradability, a ton of customization giving it full video control (tint/contrast/saturation,etc..) tied to each input, the volume slider even shows on the screen when using HDMI at 1080.  Only concern I may have is with updates, if the chip or processor can handle upgrades via usb downloads.

Crutchfield had just lowered their price from US 1200 to 799 4 weeks ago from today.  When considering price, the Denon seems to have earned another star.

@ Eborgelin

Indeed. As I write this Amp has hit 789.50 in Sweden. (8990 Swedish Krona) Considering that the AVR 2310 is 8498 Swedish Krona it reprsents a fantastic deal...wish I has spotted this when I bought my AVR-2310....in Sweden last week. Sad

Competition between a mainstream "White Goods" retailer and the Scandinavian Denon dealer/Audiophile outlet chain cut prices of the AVR 1910 very recently...now it looks like they have locked horns over the 3310 also.

The extra va-va voom of the 3310 would have been welcome, although a proper speaker package to make the most of this would also be required.

I am STILL a very very happy Denon AVR-2310 owner....I cannot fault its performance in the short time I have had it so far.

Hi,

This item is now for sale at around 775 (was 1200) in Sweden, should it be a good replacement for my old Denon AVR 2800 (-99) or should I look elsewhere for newer later better products? How about the upcomming HDMI 1.4 standard, worth waiting for?? I need to match it with a KEF 3005 speaker system..

I HAVE PURCHASED THE 3310 FOR £779 AS PART OF A PACKAGE DEAL. FANTASTIC AMP. LOVE IT. LOADS OF POWER.

USE IT WITH MA R90HD 5.1 SYSTEM. OVER KILL YES BUT BAGS OF FUN PLUS COULDNT FIT LARGER SPEAKERS IN ROOM.

IT CONTROLS THE SPEAKERS WITH APLOMB AND SOUNDS SUPERB FOR THE ££'S.

USE THE AUDESSEY EQ BUT I FIND THE DYNAMIC EQ A BIT TOO MUCH!!

karthikomfs - that's a great price for a great receiver. Hard to know if the Denon would now be five stars, especially with other price cuts since we last Group Tested. But the important thing is you being happy with your purchase. Enjoy!
