Cost ???719 now. Quieter in operation than the Naim CD5i or Rega apollo. Sound quality is very good. Play the album 'The Living Road' by Lhasa de Sela to find out why it's worth spending so much on a system. All instruments are well defined and clear. I have it set up with KEF RDM 1 speakers and Cyrus 6VS2 amp. Build quality is excellent and CD loading is more simple than the Rega or Naim.

After reading the official comment from Cyrus I did indeed 'go back immediately' to my retailer who contacted Cyrus and told me my CD8Se would need to go back for a software update which would only take 3 days.. I telephoned the Service team at Cyrus who spoke to their R and D team, called me back and indeed confirmed the player needed to sent back in to Cyrus for a software update. I also commented that the player 'cracked' intermittantly and Cyrus said they were aware some players had this fault although did not want to comment what this fault was but mentioned a possible clock error. My retailer has offered me a new player as an alternative to sending mine away on my insistance. However if I have been receiving 'mixed messages' as Peter puts it, it has been from Cyrus and my dealer (after they talked to Cyrus).

Sorry, in deleting an abusive comment from someone I accidentally cut a comment from Hi-fi Decision on the build quality of the new SE players.
Look out for a news story on the issue shortly, as we've gone back to Cyrus for official comment.

High praise indeed !! Now I cant decide between this one and Naim CD5i. Its definitely on my audition list. I am also hearing Naim CD5i is not good for long listen which is putting me off.
The Kandy K2 CD player is well worth a listen, but the competition is tough
The CD5i gets a lick of paint in the shape of the MkII (actually called the CD5 'i' with an italic slant), getting even more refinement and dynamics
