Can’t stand wires? You could do far worse than demo the RSX700s

Wireless ’phones are a bit of a toughie: should you compare them to other headphones, or do you judge them based on the standard of other wireless cans?

We do both. Chances are if you’re reading about these, it’s because wirelessness is your priority, but we feel honour-bound to inform you, dear reader, of how they compare to their wired brethren.

As wireless headphones, these Beyerdynamics are very good. They’re weighty, full-bodied and detailed. There’s some harshness to the top end, and dynamically they’re a little flat, but when compared to other products of their ilk, these are fairly minor niggles.

Wired vs wireless
Compared with common-or-garden headphones, however, these faults become much more evident. The RSX700s aren’t quite as balanced or exciting as even a decent £30 wired pair. But then, with those you can’t walk 20m away from your source uninhibited by cables, as you can with these Beyerdynamics.

Bear in mind that these aren’t truly portable, as the transmitter needs to be connected to the mains, but if you’re after wireless headphones for the home (or garden), they’re a good bet.

Just remember you’re paying a fairly steep price so you can stretch your legs.
