Thin treble and big bass lets these cans down

....well, I could have not used better words for it!

I truly enjoy this headphones, at least for my type of music (trance, psy trance, teckno etc...) I have been through all sorts of Grados and while these are superb cans they lack the humpfs that this genre of music needs.

I would love to see them reconsidered by WHF! : )

Thanks MJFear!

Hmm. 3 out of 5. Just goes to show that you shouldn't always listen to what the mags say.

Just auditioned these cans against the Grado SR80i and AT ATH-AD700 after starting out listening to the A500s. Well what can I say?

The A500s were good, but rather muffled at the top end I felt. So I tried the Grados as supposedly the 'reference' can at this price point.

The Grados were extremely disappointing - cheap, flimsy pieces of plastic that were horrible to wear. I would have been disappointed to have been given them in an airline economy seat to watch the movies on to be honest. And their sound wasn't that great either - very aggressive top end (though fast, taught agile bass) but couldn't see myself wearing them for too long without getting tired of both the sound and the fit.

So tried the ATH-AD700. Bliss. But very loose on my head and didn't feel as comfortable as the A500 with their proper around-ear pads. So I asked the salesperson if he had anything that felt like the A500, had the bass of the A500, but with the top-end and clarity of the AD700. So out came the A700 and I knew immediately the game was up.

It was a very very close run thing, but in the end I want to wear the cans in the lounge and not annoy the wife when she is watching TV, so the choice made itself. Fit, feel, sound - IMHO just about everything about the A700 as a package kicked the royal posterior of everything else I tried (especially and surprisingly the Grados).

And the best bit - I bought them in Singapore so I only paid about £100!!

Don't listen to the WHF review of these cans - it's poppycock. Go and buy yourself a pair of A700s or AD700s - you'll be disappointed with neither. If the SR80I and ATH-AD700 both score 5/5 then the A700 has to be a 5/5 as well.
