Apple iPod nano 8GB
With this the third generation of the iPod nano, Apple has taken an evolutionary step forward in terms of design, ability and functionality. Most noticeable is the smaller, squarer casing that replaces the previous frame, with several new colours to boot.
Both the 4GB (£99) and 8GB versions (bye-bye, 2GB!) now feel lighter than air and thinner than a gnat’s combover. The new 2in-diagonal colour screen has the same resolution as the latest iPod Classic, making art, photos and video look spectacular.
All the good bits of the 2G plus much more
The new intuitive menu system is also a real plus for the nano. As with other iPod models, this is remarkably easy to use, and the ‘cover flow’ method of scanning your music is another welcome addition.
Fortunately, the nano’s latest makeover has done nothing to damage its sonic ability. Music still sounds as precise, clear and dynamic as it does on all the other iPod models. When listening to Chad VanGaalen’s Red Hot Drops, the nano produces a clean detailed sound that times well.
Never one to rest on its laurels, Apple continues to push the boundaries in the MP3 player market, and the new nano is yet another benchmark for the rest.
