UPDATED: Onkyo investigating HDMI compatibility issue with 2009 Panasonic TVs

UPDATE 23/07/09:
Panasonic has today confirmed that it too is aware of the problem and is working on a fix.
"Panasonic Japan knows that there's a problem and is working with Onkyo Japan on a counter measure," says a spokeswoman for Panasonic UK.
A recent firmware upgrade on Panasonic's 2009 Viera G10, V10 and Z1 TVs was not related to this issue – it was a picture quality upgrade, says Panasonic.
We'll let you know the minute we have more information.
Onkyo says it's aware of HDMI handshake issues between its TX-SR606 and TX-SR607 AV receivers and Panasonic's 2009 range of Viera TVs, and is investigating the problem.
The issue came to light on our Forums, when a poster who had bought a Panasonic TX-P42V10 plasma tried to connect it up to his existing Onkyo TX-SR606 receiver and Panasonic DMP-BD30 Blu-ray player.
When he tried to play his first Blu-ray disc at 1080p/24fps, the Panasonic 'V10 failed to synch with the receiver and Blu-ray player, and the TV displayed a blank screen. If the video signal is sent as 1080i, he says, it works fine.
The owner contacted Sevenoaks, from whom he bought the Blu-ray player and receiver, and says both the retailer and Onkyo were quick to respond to the problem. "I have been very impressed that they've wasted no time in verifying there is an issue," he says.
A spokesman for Onkyo UK says: "Onkyo is aware of the issue and is investigating."

Haven't seen a link to the new update from Panasonic on this page (Which I'd been checking) so thought I'd post it.

This is indeed an issue with Panasonic. After excellent after sales service from both Panasonic and Onkyo, via Genserve in the UK, I was asked to contact Panasonic UK support for a solution to this hand-shaking issue between my Onkyo 876 and Panasonic 50G10. They are now aware of a firmware fix via SD card which should be available in the next week.
This problem is much more widespread than is presently indicated and perhaps rests, primarily, with Panasonic.
I have given up connecting my Toshiba Dvd player by HDMI to my Pana TH-42PZ85B because of 5.1 output problems.
Well I didn' see any posts about this yet, but it seems that Onkyo is not the only brand to have HDMI handshake problems. I am living a similar situation with my Yamaha RX-V765.
I will start a thread on this, I must not be the only one to have this problem!
Just had a call from Onkyo's UK PR. I'm told we'll be getting a further statement on this issue later today. Will post it as soon as I get it.
Just got myself an Onkyo TX-SR607 and love it. Unfortunately I've encountered the "handshake" issue. My setup is a Panasonic TX-P42G10B Plasma and a DMP-BD35 Blu-ray player. As with others here I can pass video through the AV reciever if I choose to use 1080i but the BD player defaults back to 1080p every time which brings back the static and it's very frustrating.
I do hope that either Panasonic or Onkyo can find a way to rectify this problem as it's making watching Blu-ray discs with full HD sound a nightmare.
I had the snowy picture problem with a Pana V10, Onkyo SR506 and Pana BD30. Onkyo confirmed that they are talking to Panasonic Japan. But Panasonic UK Tech support told me therte is no issue. They also said the V10 wouldnt display 1080p. When the V10 clearly say its displaying 1080p in the input info box that pops up in the corner of the screen. I tried to set the BD30 to 1080i (as told to do by Onkyo tech support) to get around the issue but the BD30 keeps reverting back to 1080p and giving display issue again. I can only guess that the V10 is telling the BD30 to display 1080p. WHY DOSE PANASONIC TECH SUPPORT KNOW LESS THAN THE CONSUMERS BUYING THERE PRODUCTS????
That would be the reason I stick with Panasonic, and not fiddle around with the small players in the field!

See above. Sorry this is taking so long to resolve, but at least Panasonic and Onkyo in Japan are finally talking to each other.
Is there any update on the press release yet, as I too have this issue!
We're expecting a statement on this issue from Onkyo and Panasonic on Monday, July 13th. We'll post it online as soon as we get it.
My prayers have been answerd.
I have been having a problem between my SR-606 - Mediacenter and samsung plasma tv. The format is now and then switching witch causes the tv to turn black for a few sec. some times i goes black, periode. Then i have to shut it all down and start over. it`s funny becaus my infocus x9 projector is working fine at all time. is there made any firmware update to clear this problem?
I have Vizio 37" 720p HDTV and Onkyo 607. Sometimes I get "snow" on my TV when switching HDMI modes or inputs. It doesn't matter what the HDMI source is. I tried PS3, XBOX 360, DVD player. I have to turn off the receiver and the TV, and turn them back on to get them to sync back up.
Onkyo need to fix this and give everyone a public firmware upgrade. Release FW upgrade to public.
I have an issue my Onkyo TX-SR606 handshaking with my Panasonic DMP BD80 blue ray player a Samsung A557 screen. Maybe they will investigate that as well !
Have you guys contacted genserve and updated your firmware for your receivers ?
And again I take the receiver out the loop and problem gone. Also no problem with xbox360.
Might be worth putting calls into Onkyo as well to see if they take note.
I have & genserve.
Fingers crossed.
I have problems with two different DVD players connected through the TX-SR705 to my Philips TV.
Sometimes, my Oppo DV-980H crashes on power up. The workaround is to switch it off and on again.
Sometimes my Panasonic DMR-EX77 powers up without the HDMI port enabled. In this case the only workaround is to remove power from the unit for about 10 mins. Then on startup it is usually okay. I think the complete powerdown is necessary to encourage the player to re-boot the HDMI card... Maybe?
I wonder if it' the Onkyo that's the common cause. It's currently with Genserve being investigated.
Maybe they could also investigate the compatibility between the 2008 models as well. I have a Panasonic 58PZ800 television, a TX-SR806 receiver and a DMP-BD30 Blu-ray player. All's fine when watching a disc, but afterwards when the system's powered down and then turned back on, the TV keeps flicking back and forth between "TV" and "HDMI" inputs. The only way to stop it is to hammer on the remotes TV button half a dozen times. But take the receiver out of the equation and it all works fine!
