Sky Mobile TV for iPhone

UPDATE:

Sky's Mobile TV app is now available over 3G on your iPhone. Previously only Wi-Fi-enabled, the service now gives you live TV over the 3G cellular network.

Yours for £6 per month, the Sky Mobile TV app is free from the iTunes Store and delivers Sky Sports channels 1, 2, 3 and Sky Sports News.

Also on the service is ESPN, At The Races and Sky News.

We've just given it a try and after a quick update to the app it seemed to be working swimmingly over 3G.

Original story posted 10/11/2009:

Sky's Mobile TV service is now available on the iPhone and iPod Touch. The service allows you to watch all the Sports channels and more over a Wi-Fi connection.

The service will cost £6 per month, though the first 150,000 O2 customers who sign-up for the service will get three months free – text Sky to 2020 for your promotional code.

Sky Mobile will give you access to Sky Sports 1, 2 and 3, Sky Sports Xtra, Sky Sports News, ESPN, At The Races and Sky News. The app also allows you to browse the channel line-up to see what's coming up in the next 24 hours.

You'll be able to watch live Premier League and Champions League football, International Rugby, Golf and more, though some content – HBO Boxing, NBA, MLB, Serie A and NCAA – will be blocked.

All that's required is the free iPhone app from Apple's iTunes Store, a Sky ID and a subscription to the Sky Mobile service.

Decent picture, no contract, ESPN thrown in (cheapest TV package with Sky Sports & ESPN is almost 40 quid/mth), and even 30-second review if you miss something.

Clearly you wouldn't want to watch a 3.5in screen for hours on end, but if you haven't got Sky TV, it sure beats Radio 5 Live on Champions League night.

I'm just surprised Sky didn't restrict this to its existing TV customers.

An impressive rant, sir. And I know people who feel a similar way but as you know the channel line-up and HD and SD content is unrivalled - and there's still nothing quite as easy to use as Sky+.

Being on o2 I signed up for the free offer and I have to say the picture quality is superb. It's like having a portable TV wherever you go round the house, provided you're happy to only watch Sky Sports and Sky News...

Again sky have to charge for everything , what is wrong with giving the benefit to loyal though mistreated customers and letting them access free like sky player

Havent they heard of the recession

most are already into 70 plus a month with extra subscriptions for HD PER BOX and multi room and extra for ESPN, as if!!

we must not take this up and perhaps they will learn to give something back for once to those who are not NEW CUSTOMERS, free box anyone , Thanks for the heads up on that one NOT!

I appreciate I am one of the idiots and early adopters of everything, putting up with the initial rubbish until they iron out the bugs and dont even get me started on the poor broadband (lets blame BT)FOR BEING OVERCHARGED FOR NOT GETTING MAX MB , but still be charged as if we were!

AND CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! NICE PEOPLE , WASTE OF SPACE

Once I was actually told " you dont have to have sky sir, there is a choice"  lovely attitude dont you agree!

I love the iphone and i love the sky service when it works , doesnt fail to record, need rebooting etc

but the company just keeps on milking us

well this time i am dry!!
