THX says calibration reduces HDTV energy consumption by up to 50%

A research study by THX claims that as well as improving your TV's picture quality, calibrating it properly could reduce energy consumption by as much as 50 per cent.
The THX study evaluated plasma and LCD HDTV performance, and found that a properly calibrated viewing mode consumed less energy than the TV manufacturer's Vivid and Dynamic modes.
An easy way to save
Savings for users ranged from 15 to 50 per cent, which could amount to £30 a year, depending on your electricity tariff. The annual consumption and cost calculations are based on an average four hours of use per day.
THX engineers evaluated more than 15 plasma and LCD models in the US. Plasma HDTVs manufactured before 2008 achieved the highest level of energy savings after professional calibration.
"Newer HDTV models are using less energy than ever as a result of advances in panel manufacturing," says John Dahl, director of education at THX. "But both newer and older plasma and LCD HDTVs can experience additional energy savings as a result of proper video calibration."

If you are going to set up sets using this system keep your fingers crossed the tv set doe not obscure the screen when in its setup mode. My panasonic made it almost impossible to alter the screen as the only way I found of seeing the instructions was to start making changes and this only lasted a few seconds before the screen was again obscured, as for reading the instructions with the glasses,well nigh impossible especially if you are wear specs. Any tips folks
don't know if it improves energy consumption but they look great I'm wearing them down the pub tonight !
