Sony BDP-S360
Sony BDP-S360 - coming soon

We've just received details of Sony's forthcoming BDP-S360 Blu-ray Disc player, the replacement for its acclaimed BDP-S350 model.

The new model is the first entry-level Sony BD player to include decoding for both Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD audio.

Naturally the new player can handle 1080p, 24fps Blu-ray video and it's Profile 2.0 straight out of the box, so can stream BD-Live interactive material such as additional scenes, trailers and games.

Equipped with Sony's Precision Cinema HD Upscale technology, the BDP-S360 can convert standard-definition signals to 1080p via HDMI.

Sony claims its quick start-up mode will take just six seconds (hurrah), and you can control a Sony Bravia TV and home cinema system with one remote control using Bravia Sync.

There's support for Deep Colour and xv Colour, plus Sony's Precision Drive technology designed to detect and correct wobbling discs for more stable playback, and the now familiar Xross Media bar used in the PS3.

Two new home cinema systems
To complement the new player, Sony has also launched two new home cinema systems to go with it.

The HT-SS360 (satellite speaker) 5.1 model delivers a claimed 1000 watts of power and come equipped with Sony's S-AIR wireless technology, as well as Digital Cinema Auto Calibration for easy set up.

The second model, the HT-FS3, is a 2.1 system with S-Force PRO front surround sound.

Both models are fitted with a digital media port for connecting an MP3 player, mobile phone or laptop.

We're awaiting confirmation of UK prices on the home cinema systems, but the BDP-S360 will sell for around £230 when it goes on sale in July.

The Blu-ray player goes on sale in July for around 230. Still no official release date or prices for the home cinema systems I'm afraid.

Any idea when this and the associated home cinema packages will be available in the UK?

Sounds good but I bet it won't come in silver! I won't be buying a Blu-Ray player until I can get one that's reasonably priced, has all the audio decoding and is silver.

Thank you LeeG71 - that answered my question!

Oldboy - I'd assume the replacement for the BDP S550 is the BDP S560 which can be seen on the Sony Style USA website for 350. This model has built-in WiFi, a front USB port and wireless streaming of photos (DLNA). The spec may be different for the UK model.

This is great news as i've been putting off getting a new bluray player untill the new models were announced but what about the replacement for the BDP 550? This is the model i have been waiting for and am looking forward to seeing what's in store for that model!

6 seconds... if that's to fully load the disc, that will be ace. But I suspect it won't be...

the only difference seems to be the onboard decoding of DTS-HD audio. true hd was output on the 350 via linear pcm.

but i bitstream my audio via hdmi so it doesnt concern me.

the only reason to upgrade is if it can play divx/avi files.

the ps3 can, the new panasonic bdp 60 can and a cheap 40 dvd player can so hopefully this should be able to.

if it cant the get a cheap sony 350 or switch to panasonic is the way to go

Certainly the outrageous slow load up times of BD players has put me off buying so far...

Lets hope this one rectifies that!

given how stupidly expensive the Freesat/BD recorder from Panasonic is, this could be the one for me.  Have Sony indicated when they'll have a review sample to WHF Towers?

Does Sony (or anyone else) plan to offer wireless network connection for BD2.0 machines?

I suspect running ethernet cables through the living room to the home computer is not convenient for everyone.

- Nick.

Is the 6 seconds just to power up?  Does anyone have the data for disc loading times esp. BD-J discs?

Usually when newer models sell for the same price and with more features there's invariably some compromise somewhere no?

This sounds almost too good to be true. Well this is something to look forward to when I go HD in a few months.
