Sky to launch contextual advertising in 2011

Sky is to launch a contextual advertising system in 2011, which will see Sky+ HD users delivered adverts based on their location, choice of Sky packages, and viewing habits.
The plan was revealed by Sky Media MD, Nick Milligan, at the Westminster Media Forum's The Future of Media conference yesterday.
He said the adverts will be downloaded to the ‘spare' section of the Sky+ HD box's hard drive, and served as appropriate to the content you're viewing.
For example, if you're a Sky Movies subscriber, you're more likely to see trailers for the latest cinema/Blu-ray releases.
Milligan stressed that Sky is considering the best ways to deploy the system, including the ability for viewers to opt-out of receiving targeted ads. More details to follow as we receive them.

probably £30 gort1951 - a tenner for each D
Will you still have to pay £10 a month for HD tv channels and possibly a further £10 for the 3D HD channel?

What the advertisers demand the broadcasters deliver. After all the broadcasters are desperate for advertisers revenue and would sell their very souls to get it. While at the same time the viewing public get the short straw, as usual.
Yes, Pete - scratchy sitar music, flock wallpaper and 'Just five minutes from this Sky box'
At this rate I shall be opting out of Sky...
That would be good. Imagine ads in the early hours of Saturday morning... "Did you know your local Asda is 24-hours? Get down there and buy some cheap doughnuts." Or: "Do you realise Abra Kebabdra is still open? Mmm, doner meat." Maybe.
Will the location based ads be like the good old Pearl and Dean ads?
Local curry houses and dodgy car dealers?
