Sky+ HD
Sky+ HD: 3D TV channel due in 2010

As we forecast earlier this month, Sky has today confirmed it will launch the UK's first 3D TV channel in 2010.

The service will be broadcast across Sky's existing high-definition infrastructure and will be available via the current generation of Sky+ HD set-top boxes.

But customers will need a new '3D-ready' TV to watch 3D programmes – such sets are expected to go on sale in the UK sometime next year.

Sky's 3D channel will offer a selection of movies, entertainment and sport in 3D.

The decision to launch a 3D channel follows extensive research and development into the technology. In April the satellite TV company broadcast its first live 3D TV event, a performance by Keane from Abbey Road Studios in London.

And earlier this month Gerry O'Sullivan, BSkyB's Director of Strategic Product Development, confirmed the company was "seriously exploring 3D TV".

Sky has also confirmed, as predicted, the launch of a comprehensive 'pull' video-on-demand service next year. This new service will use Sky's broadband network to deliver films and programmes via the set-top box's interconnect connection. It will complement Sky's existing Anytime 'push' VoD service.

As camera's are 2D I can't see the point of 3D, it's just more barriers in the way of actually watching the film. I can't see how this new technology will enhance the experience and even if it does it's sounding more like a FAD that anything else. I'd be more interested if they brought back Virtual reality headsets and worked on my other senses.

So, I'm sure one or two of the lovely WHF... staff have commneted on seeing 3D TV. Didnt they say it was a bit rubbish?

Then, we have James Cameron giving an interview about his new 3D filum and saying that TV version is still at the drawing bored stage.

Yet we now have the TVs and a channel coming next year?

Early adopters will just gave to accept that theyre TVs are a bit fecal, then...

Is there any connection between Sky's introduction of a VOD service using its broadband network and their recent decision to slash the download allowance of its many "Mid" broadband subscibers by 75%?

i`ve heard ps3 will be compatible with 3-d then maybe it will be worth buying one.

no interest in 3d just about to purchase krp 600a after a three month wait, why would i spend another 3 grand on a tv for 3d
