With all the talk of budget Blu-ray players, and falling prices, this universal disc player from Oppo is something of an oddity.

You see, it will play all manner of discs – DVD-Video, DVD-Audio, SACD, Divx and DVD-R(W)/DVD+R(W) – but it doesn't handle Blu-ray.

Now a year or two back that wouldn't have mattered. But today it does. Especially as Oppo itself is expected to launch a universal Blu-ray disc player later this month for around $500-$600.
