Pioneer is launching a family of iPod systems in November, with styling, specification and pricing that aims to challenge B&W's Zeppelin.

The less snappily named Pioneer XW-NAS5 iPod speaker systems feature 2.1-channel digital amplification, claimed to offer "precise sound reproduction and warm acoustics", underpinned by a bass-boosting, downward-firing subwoofer.

The systems offer direct digital audio connections for iPod and iPhone, with a Bluetooth adapter available as an optional wireless extra.

A basic model is expected to cost up to £399, with a premium system – also featuring a radio, plus 'soundscaping' (birdsong, whale noises etc) – will be priced up to £499. The basic model is available in white, while the premium edition will come in your choice of black, white, silver or red.

We hope to review at least one of Pioneer's new iPod systems by their November release – watch this space!
