You may have noticed your local Sainsbury's giving away free 3D glasses over the past week or so, and it's all part of Channel 4's 3D Week that starts on Monday 16th November.

Channel 4 will be showing a variety of 3D programmes from classic horror Friday the 13th Part III to a new Derren Brown show.

The channel is "not talking state of the art IMAX technology... but some good old-fashioned fun", with old footage from 3D's heyday to new, unseen content.

Pick-up a free pair of glasses from Sainsbury's to enjoy programmes such as The Queen in 3D, Flesh for Frankenstein and the equally terrifying sounding Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert.

Click through to the Channel 4 website to read all about what to expect from 3D Week.

And don't miss our special feature on 3D TV in the December 2009 issue of What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision, on sale tomorrow, November 11th.

Well that was a load of rubbish. I started watching Derren Brown last night, turned it off after 5 minutes.

Don't think so, Alantigger. This from the Channel 4 website:

"The glasses that will work for Channel 4s 3D week are the Amber and Blue ColourCode 3D glasses that are available for free in Sainsburys. 3D glasses with different colour lenses wont work with the 3D Week programmes on Channel 4."

hey there, I got 3d specs when at the cinema to watch 'A Christmas Carol' seemed like proper black sunspecs to look at.

Would these be okay do you think to watch this up-coming event on tv or would i have to get others ?

thx.

Thanks for the update Tonya

I have just ordered Coraline and look forward to seeing the results

I have had DVD's previously with the cardboard glasses and they are a bit of a niggle for glasses wearers

I ,as I am certain others, would be prepared to pay for some 3D glasses that were designed to be worn over prescription specs

the ear pieces are always a bit too short and the thin cardboard can irritate the ears after a bit when twisted over the arms of my frames to keep them on so I long for a 3d system that does not require these fellows

i recently watched the chuck 3D on Sky with the free glasses from the tv magazine and while the programme was a bit rubbish the effect was suitably noticable

better than the old red and blue you got with Journey to the centre of the earth where 3d was at the expense of any sense of colour

Hi there READINGFAN!

3D BluRay discs have been available for some time now and usually include 4 sets of glasses and contain both the 2D and 3D versions of the film.

Coraline, Bloody Valentine, Polar Express, etc, are all available and my kids love the experience. I watched a 3D episode of The Simpsons the other day, I was giggling in all dimensions.

Looking forward to the 3D article

curious to see if anyone other than sky will be broadcasting in this

manner

not going to pay another 10 per month for the privelage

so hopefully 3D bluray coming soon

imports are usually available before sky and I get to keep the film after

I saw a set in harrods recently and you had to be careful where you sat, but did not need glasses, that generation of 3D telly was pretty impressive,

a good thing for people like me with vairifocals glasses already
